FALL * FAMILY * FUN

Posted in family

I love fall!  I love everything about it really...the colors, the food, the smells, the clothes.  It is far and away my very favorite season!  This fall was made even nicer by a visit from my sister and her family last week.  They are from Charleston, SC so I was ecstatic that they got to experience a Tennessee autumn.  I grew  up in Charleston, so I'm very  aware of the fact that fall just doesn't happen there.  The fall months are really more of the dying out of summer...and in Charleston summer fights death!

I thought I'd just highlight some of our fall moments that we shared together...

First of all, while neither family is really all that into Halloween, our kids have never gotten to trick-or-treat together.  We moved here just a few weeks before Braden's first Halloween, and we've never visited during this time before.  So it was a lot of fun for the kids to see each other in costume.  Below is a picture of them.  Annaleigh was dressed as a very convincing Anne of Green Gables.  Benjamin was Tigger.  Braden was transformed into a miniature Jack Sparrow, and Harrison is the one behind the ninja mask.

I was the only adult of our group to dress up, and if you know our family, you'll understand that just makes sense.  I decided to dress like ol' Jack too, but not to out-do Braden, just went as his Aunt Sparrow.  I will just say that I didn't have to wear a wig...

Two days before Halloween we went to a festival type event at the Nashville Zoo.  It was ok.  The kids liked it alright, but it was long and dark, and we didn't get to see any animals, which I misunderstood from the info I got on-line.  Still they racked up quite a bit of candy...just what they needed two days before Halloween.

We also made caramel apples, which turned out to be a little bit of a disaster.  The caramel was really hard and the candy wouldn't stick.  Eating them later turned out to be quite difficult as well.  I've since realized that I forgot to put water in while the caramel was melting.  Still the kids had fun doing them.

Also right in the middle of making them, Brady came in from the store and said there was a huge double rainbow outside.   So we all trooped out and oohed and aahed over it.  Benjamin kept asking about it the rest of the week.

On Wednesday we went out for a multi-birthday celebration.  Damon's, Brady's, Benjamin's and my birthdays are within three weeks of each others.  We went to Buca di Beppo's, a family-style Italian place.  It was incredible!  Our friend Jay came as well, and we all laughed and ate for nearly two hours.  My only regrets are that our rowdy party of 10 scared off the little couple that was trying to have a romantic dinner, and I forgot to snap a group shot!  Although here is a cute one of Benjamin opening one of his presents...

The rest of the time we just hung out and enjoyed each other's company.  The boys, who are only 8 months apart, spent most of their time making up and acting out Lord of the Rings 4, 5 & 6.  They also completed a fairly difficult jigsaw puzzle for a 5 & 6 year old.

And that's about it!  For those of you reading, come see us some time.  We'll show you just as good of time as we did the Siegals.  Maybe even better now that I have my caramel woes all figured out and we now know to avoid nighttime events at the zoo!

Those are great pics! You need to send me the one of the boys with their completed puzzle. My camera was in with a sleeping Benjamin that night!

We had a great time and are really looking forward to seeing you all in December!
