Yes!!!!.....Finally!!!!  A good snowfall here in middle TN!! (and yes, the asterisks in my title are supposed to be snowflakes).

When we were in the process of moving here over five years ago, many people in Charleston (the deep South, mind you) assumed we were moving to some Siberia-like place and would be buried in snow.  I knew better, but still I expected a little more winter than we've had, especially in the last 2-3 years.  It is definitely more wintery than SC here, but it is also definitely still a southern state, and snow is a novelty.  They still close schools.  The forecasters still spend hours in front of their radars, trying to predict to the second when the first flake will fall.  People still rush to Publix and wander the aisles with glazed looks, buying extra milk and batteries.

We were supposed to get 2 inches on Thursday.  They even closed schools. ..the night before!   We got a light dusting that was gone by 10am.  Last night we were supposed to get flurries, and I awoke this morning at 5:30am to yesterday's 2 inches.  Actually I had just staggered to the back door to let my dog out, and I just thought my contacts were filmy. Thankfully, that wasn't the case!

We did what any bedazzled, over-zealous Southern family does when there's an actual snowfall.  We bundled up the kids in two sets of clothes, whatever hats, gloves and scarves we could find and let them have a ball while we snapped pictures like papparazzi.  The first round was before 8am since Damon had to try to brave the roads to get to work.  I'm sure his pictures are probably better than mine since he hauled out his fancy Nikon D80, but you'll have to be content with my old-fashioned Canon Powershot photos...).  Round 2 occurred later after some of the neighborhood kids were out.  I didn't brave the elements that time, but sat on the sofa and channel surfed....something I NEVER get to do.  I watched about 15 minutes of "The View" ("Blech!!!" is all I can say about that.) and two games on "The Price is Right".  Honestly, I am glad that I never do this.

So, here's a few photos of our snow fun this morning...

A race down the hill of our front yard (bought these cool toboggans last year on clearance at Target):

Two very happy kids....

Here's hoping that Jack Frost comes to visit your neck of the woods....
