Generally I am a fall girl as far as seasons go. However, spring can be really nice too. I honestly didn't think I would welcome spring this year with all that much enthusiasm since we had such a lame winter. Yet I felt the symptoms of Spring Fever coming on just as soon as the first balmy breezes wafted through my windows...albeit a bit early for my tastes. March is usually rather cool and rainy in these parts, but apparently it has confused itself with May and has boasted much sunshine and temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. One of my favorite things about warmer weather is getting to put away all my clunker shoes and socks in favor of flip-flops and bare feet. This year I even chronicled my first pair with a photograph...
In other warm weather news, we visited the zoo the other day. It was spring break for public schools, so it was quite crowded. I bought a year pass though, so we'll go back sometime before school is out. Here's the kids at their favorite exhibit, the meerkats.
Baxter, our nearly 17 year old feline, had a medical emergency a couple of weeks ago. He came in from the gargage and plopped himself on the carpet in typical Baxter fashion. When he moved about an hour later, there was blood on the carpet and all over his backend. Of course one panics when a cat as old as Baxter is bleeding. He spent the night at the vet's so they could run some tests and get a urine sample. I was preparing myself for the worse, but he came home with a large bill, 3 kinds of medicine and a happy disposition. He seems to be doing fine now, except when it comes time for his meds, when he faithfully tries to bite me. Isn't he one of the cutest cats you've ever seen? And really he doesn't look a day over 12...
Finally, Annaleigh tested last Friday for her yellow belt. She did fantastic, despite missing about 2 weeks of classes with stitches in her foot. Her instructors regularly praise her techniques, so it looks like we have another good fit in the family. Here's the testee all decked out and waiting her turn before the judges. (Please note the cute white bow in pony tail. Annaleigh is definitely her mother's daughter, as she suggested herself to always have matching hair things to her belts.
Hope all is well with you and yours and that you're enjoying your own nice spring weather! |
