Weekend Happenings (and one Wednesday event!)

Posted in family

Our weekends around here are usually pretty busy.  I'm never the mom that is sipping iced tea on her porch, engrossed in a good novel.  I'm the one that is running helter-skelter from the grocery store to taekwondo to a church meeting...and on and on.

This past weekend was no exception and especially eventful.  First of all, on Saturday Annaleigh was indeed awarded her yellow belt!  She did so well at testing, and when she went up to accept her certificate and belt, Mr. Rodgers was very complimentary to her.  He even called Harrison to come up, and he went on to make some equally nice comments about him.  Here she is tying on her belt for the first time.

This girl is growing up so fast!  She also did another thing for the first time this weekend...shave under her arms! (and yes, I asked her if I could share this.  She agreed, albeit somewhat reluctantly.)  I have no pictures of the event, but trust me, it is monumental when you hand your oldest child a razor, send them to the shower and tell them to be careful.  I can still remember when she was about 3 or 4, and she tried to shave her legs with my razor.  A Cinderella band-aid fixed her up, and I don't think she's touched one since.  At least we didn't need the band-aids this time.

And speaking of growing up, Harrison learned how to ride a two-wheeler on Saturday!  I have never witnessed someone learn so fast in my life!  Damon took him out for about an hour, and he came back able to pedal all the way down the street.  Now we just have to get him a bigger bike because the one he has is too small, as is his helmet.  Here he is just cruising along...

Oh...and yes, I promised you a Wednesday event...  Well, I just wanted to mention that Damon and I got to go to an Evanescence concert at the GEC.  His company has a box there, so it was free.  Yet it was so high up that I was unable to get any good pics.  It was awesome!  I have become such a fan of that group.  Several people have told me I sort of look like their lead singer, Amy Lee.  I was going to try to wear a long goth dress and extra eye-liner and see if I could sneak backstage, but Damon didn't think that was a good idea.  Anyway, what do you think?  Here's Amy Lee...

and here's me...

Whatcha' think?  Could I have pulled it off?  Maybe with a lighter complexion and more eye-liner...

Wow! Annaleigh is shaving! When do you think she'll start shaving her legs? I don't know why, but this news makes me feel old. I can remember sneaking mom's razor and shaving my legs when i was 11 and that seems soooo long ago. It doesn't seem right that Annaleigh is old enough to so this!

I didn't anticipate a conversation about Annaleigh's shaving habits, but here goes...

She will not need to shave her legs this year at least. There is hair there, but it is still pretty fine. The underarm hair was noticeable....and I'll just leave it at that. =)

1. Can we please stop talking about my daughter's shaving needs...YIKES!!!
2. Annie sure is doing great at taekwondo! So proud of her (just like her brother). It's amazing to see how her dance really has helped prepare her for this.
3. Concert was cool...thanks for being a rocker!
