***Those familiar with the group Daughtry (or this season of "American Idol") will have to imagine my title being sung.*** Although I was not born in Charleston, it is as much "home" as this Navy brat ever enjoyed. And although I like Tennessee better, I still feel like I'm home when I cross the border into SC. It occurred to me about a week or so before we left for our visit that my children, both born in the Palmetto State, probably did not remember ever being to the beach. I inquired and sure enough only Annaleigh, who was 5 when we moved, had the vaguest memory of the sand and sun. Harrison literally said, "What's the beach?" Oh, that's sad... So on Sunday evening, the kids and I, accompanied by Uncle Patrick and Aunt Amy headed towards Isle of Palms. While it's not the prettiest, it was the closest. This, as you can see by our attire, was strictly a scenic visit, and for all of you with a twisted sense of humor, about the third wave back broke right above the back of my knees about 3 seconds after this photo, and I spent the rest of the evening with soggy, sandy jeans.
Here's a cute picture of the kids with their aunt (sorry, Amy...I didn't ask before I added you to my blog...I'm not too savvy with Internet etiquette!) This was a squat little palm tree in the front of a hotel on the beach.
The kids LOVED the beach, by the way, and now want to take a vacation there much to their parents' chagrins (we're not really beach types). Well, the real reason we went to Charleston was this:
My new nephew, Ethan Joshua, was born April 27, weighing 8 lbs. 8 oz. Isn't he a cute little punkin' head?! While my sister was in the hospital recovering from her c-section, my mom and I took care of her 2 other little boys, Braden and Benjamin. We all had a great time! Here's a few other shots of our time there...
I learned very quickly this is the only way one can navigate a busy Wal-mart with three lively boys, all under the age of 7. At one point we were separated from my mom and Annaleigh, and all three of them started chanting, loudly, "MIIII-MIIII!!!! ANNNN-IIIEEE!!!" Everyone was staring at me. Then they started yelling, "ANYONNNNNEEEE!!!" I threatened them at that point to stop because then it looked like I was guilty of child abduction.
These two are nigh inseperable! And don't they look so very much alike? I daresay that if Annaleigh had not been with us, Benjamin would have been a bit more difficult to care for.
Don't let the cuteness of this photo fool you.....these two are a mess! It's not that they are completely bad. They just get so wrapped up in their own little world of swords and monsters and heroes and villains that everyone else is just a nuisance. They never stop playing...not at the hospital, not at Wal-mart, not at restaurants, not at church, not at midnight... On another note, I am so glad these two are so close. I just hope they are still not holding hands and calling each other Legolas and Aragorn in public when they're 20. (Oh...and my apologies to the man whose rear end I accidentally photographed. Trust me....it was NOT intentional.) |
