Three C's and some Zzzzzzz's

Posted in family

Our weekend was crazy....but that's not the first C.  And crazy is normal here.  I guess that makes it not crazy and just normal.  So, if one of you told me that you had a crazy day, would that mean really crazy or normal crazy?  I need therapy.

Crafts

Remember those paperbag albums?  Well, I didn't sell them.  My sewing machine is really ornery.  I think it's demon-posessed.  Either that or I just don't understand how to use it.  Anyway, I really wanted to sew the bindings because I was afraid they might eventually fall apart with just adhesive.  Annaleigh did sell her jewelry though.  Here's our very sunny "booth":

We had a really cute display.  See the Christmas tree?  We hung a lot of her earrings on there.  It was actually a very slow day, and she didn't make all that much, but we did earn back the cost of the booth, which was important for my sanity if nothing else.  Her best sellers were her snowman earrings (she sold 4 pair), which she's agreed to donate for a 2nd place prize of my wreath contest.  Yay!  I knew the lady who was in charge of the craft fair, and she told us it was their worst year ever.  Probably because I was involved, I'm sure.  Remember....I'm a beacon of bad luck.  And speaking of bad luck....

Cubs win the World Series!

Anyone who knows anything about baseball, is scratching their head right now.  Harrison decided to reinvent the World Series in our living room with his stuffed animals.  It was the Cubs vs. the Rockies.  Number 1---I didn't have the heart to tell him that the Cubs and Rockies are both National League and can't play each other in the World Series.  Number 2---I didn't have the heart to tell him that the Cubs just don't ever go to the World Series.  Number 3---I didn't have the heart to tell him that he had Derek Lee pitching, and he's actually the first baseman.  Number 4---I didn't have the heart to tell Annaleigh that there are no cheerleaders in baseball.  So I just sat on the floor and snapped pictures with my mouth shut.

Here's Lee getting ready to wind up for the opening pitch.

Oh no....look!  He just laid out the batter and the umpire with one pitch.  But that's what you get for putting a first baseman on the mound.

Here Annaleigh's decided to give  the poor Rockies a hand.  It didn't help much though.  The Cubs won 2,ooo,ooo to 3.  I knew they could do it!

Creativity

Harrison announced sometime this weekend that he felt like being creative.  Usually he just feels like being destructive, so this was big news.  He proceeded to get out butcher paper and paint.  I tried to tell him that having the Cubs win the World Series with Derek Lee as pitcher was very creative, but his juices were flowing, so I just got out of his way.

What you see is the beginning of the Garden of Eden.  I have no idea what prompted this....maybe the drop in barometric pressure or something....but this kid just doesn't do things like this. If I tell him he has to color something, he groans.  If I tell him he needs to decorate something, he cries.  If I ask him if he'd like to do a craft, he hides under his bed. His activities consist mainly of Lego building, various types of violence, an occasional video game and looking at toy catalogs.  I like this sensitive side though, and his masterpiece really turned out nicely.

Some Zzzzzz's

I took this photo at 1:03 Friday night....or Saturday morning, depending on how you look at it.  I have always been in awe of Big D's uncanny ability to fall asleep almost instantaneously.  As you can see he removed his belt and set aside his camera bag (which is the black thing to the left) and then went on to sleep like a baby for the next 2 hours until I came to bed.  Now why I was snapping pictures of my sleeping husband and other piddly things when I had to be at craft show in 5 hours is another story altogether.  I am a chronic insomniac.  I try to go to bed like a normal person....I really do!  But I lay there and toss and turn and toss and turn.  I start to think about things like:  Why did Harrison miss the word "grade" on his spelling test and not "tomorrow"?  And speaking of tomorrow, I wonder if Annaleigh and I will finally get caught up on our reading aloud of The Trojan War?  And I wonder if we'll discuss again why we're rooting for the Trojans instead of the Greeks?  And then I'll remember how much I liked the Greek salad that I ate the day before at Mellow Mushroom, and I'll wonder why all restaurants don't add banana peppers to their Greek salads.  And then I'll ponder why I like banana peppers so much, but don't really care for actual bananas.  Harrison loves bananas, but Annaleigh doesn't care for them either.  But then she really likes tuna fish and Harrison doesn't.  Why can't they just like the same things?  My life would be so much easier if they'd just like the same things.

So, you see why I can't sleep?  I have way too much on my mind.  And speaking of my mind, I was wondering....

DID YOU SEE THE WREATH?

E-mail me at kellieann@adelgren.com to collect your points.

UPDATE:  I have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for this entry.  Interestingly, it was three who have never placed before, so this is a tight one people!

By the way, have you seen the first place prize?

Wowza!  Lil' Tennanbaum earrings in post or wires!  Make sure that you visit www.jeepcollins.com to see some more of his creations!

The booth looks great! Hey Annie, Aunt Amy doesn't have any snowman earrings. Cough, cough! Not that I would EVER drop an unsolicited hint for a stocking stuffer. :)

I'm delighted to say, we will see you soon. Yippee!!!
Love you!

Amy

Girl, I think you need a sleeping pill, or electric shock treatments maybe! Just kidding :P

I love the craft table! It's so festive! And Annaleigh looks so cute sitting there! I bet she had a great time. That is a priceless experience for her.

Oh, and I thought I would mention, I think our sewing machines must be distant relatives because mine also needs an exorcism.

But I did see the wreath!

Normally I'm the one in our family who can fall asleep immediately, but one time Lee walked in house, lay down on the floor, and fell immediately asleep.

Well, 5 comments beat me and you must actually be sleeping and missing all the action! LOL Sorry the booth didn't work out for you. It was very nice. One never knows how a craft show will go. Your paperbag scrapbooks would make great consolation prizes for those of us who don't win! =)
Love the stuffed animal baseball. My brother used to be the entire team, announcer and ump in the living room for every sport. It was hilarious!
Blessings,
Laurie

Ah...Harrison. Harrison, Harrison. You have to enjoy the innocence of a child. I suppose that he is too young to learn that neither Saturday nor Sunday were, in fact, a cold day in h*ll. But his optimism is inspiring. In his honor I'll grit my teeth and say it. "Maybe NEXT year!"

Your blog never fails to make me laugh (and I mean that in a good way!). The "World Series" pictures are priceless.

Love your daughter's display. Wish she had done better sales wise, but I'm sure she enjoyed the experience.
My machine always messes up at the least opportune time also. Have you tried smacking it? Doesn't fix the machine but makes me feel so much better. : )
My husband is the same way. And he sleeps through everything. In our first home, their was construction going on and they had to dynamite some bedrock. It shook the house so that pictures fell from the wall. He slept right through it and told me I was crazy when I told him what happened.
My son got 'creative' this week also, building a birdfeeder from an old license plate.
You have been so busy, I don't know how you fit it all into your schedule. I'm enjoying hunting for your wreath in the pictures, but way too slow to enter. Great contest!
Blessings always,
Ginny

You HAD to know that I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Cubs in the World Series bit. Those pictures (and your commentary) had me laughing out loud at my computer. My son ran over to ask what was so funny. I said he's too young to understand. At three he just hasn't been a Cub fan long enough. Though he's well on his way. Everytime my cell phone rings he chimes right in with "Go, Cubs, Go. Go, Cubs, Go. Hey Chicago, waddya say, the Cubs are gonna win today!"

I have tremendous guilt for not being a baseball fan. But looking at your pitcher/picture makes me think I could easily become a "Bears" fan! =D

My oldest loves the Cubs. My dh loves the White Sox. Both are doomed to be disappointed for the rest of their lives.
