Flashback Friday: Valentine's Day, 1993....or maybe 1994

Posted in Flashback Fridays

Please do not adjust your screen.  You are not viewing a still of the Disney Pixar movie Bug's Life.  That's just me in my huge tortoise shells.

Many questions may be forming in your head right now, so why don't I try to answer those....

Big D and I were youth leaders for the first decade or so of our marriage.  This IS on or near Valentine's Day....not Halloween.  Our youth group was hosting a banquet to raise money for a trip, and we decided, like any goofy, slightly immature youth leaders, that couples should wear costumes.  That's why Big D and I were dressed as bags of M&Ms.  See....

Told ya'.  See all the Valentine decorations?  They're tacky, but it was definitely Valentine's.

Those M&M costumes had actually been around since fall of 1990.  My best friend Julie and I made and wore them to a Halloween festival.  Julie was a good bit taller than me, so her plain bag fit Big D just fine.

And I'm sorry for being a little vague on the actual year.  I know it wasn't 1991 because we were still dating, and we just wouldn't have dressed up like candy bags when we were dating.  I also know that it wasn't 1992 because Big D was floating in a Navy tender for a 6 month Mediterranean tour during that time.  So it's 1993...or '94.  There's even a slim chance it was 1995.  Again, I'm so thankful for digital!

We weren't the only "couple" who dressed up...

Why lookie there...it's Indiana Mimi and Debbles107, dressed as Crayola crayons doing some sort of line dance with the M&Ms!  What good sports they were to come out in costumes I made for them to support our cause.  I may not have said thank you then, but I'm saying it now.  It really means a lot that you were willing to act and look as foolish as I did.  That's what family is for!

This was one of my favorite pairs of the night...

Our good friends (who are now, sadly, divorced) dressed as a frog and fly.  She carried a fly swatter and everything.

I truly hope all of you enjoyed a wonderful Valentine's Day!  And I truly hope that you received some candy, instead of dressing like it.

Feel free to join us!  It doesn't have to be about Valentine's Day.  Write about your obsession with Michael Jackson, or losing your first tooth, or where you were when the Challenger exploded.  Whatever.  Entertain us, and then come back and sign Mr. Linky below....

I love the costumes. How very clever to be 'Chocolate' instead of giving it on Valentine's Day. And your sister and Mom give new meaning to the term 'You Color my world".(I know, really bad humor, but I'm trying.LOL)
I so love your Flashback Friday. I just have no direction on what I could post to join in the fun. I really have lived a dull life compared to yours.
Thanks so much for making my day a bit "Sweeter"
Blessings,
Ginny

Just tell me Kellie Ann, was the chocolate good? Those of us with gastritis want to know. I did allow myself a spoonful of Nutella, but somehow it just wasn't the same.

By the way, tell Big D, his hair looks really groovy.

Now get on that new web site....the world is waiting!

I remember the M&M bags. Sara and I borrowed those to wear for Halloween in 8th grade. Those bags got around! However, I have absolutely NO MEMORY of ever dressing like a crayon! I'm serious. I kept looking at the picture trying to conjure something, anything. Nope, it's just not there. I guess, it was so embarrassing that I have blocked it from all memory.

I think the flyswatter thing hinted at trouble to come...
