May. 10, 2007 - I've Fallen in Love
I know, i shouldn't let it happen. I shouldn't fall in love like this.
It's dangerous and just makes life harder.
.
Yet, once the emotions kick in, can it be reversed? Maybe.
.
What on earth is this crazy woman talking about today?
Has she fallen for another man?
Nope.
.
We went and looked at some houses yesterday. I was hopeful about the ones we'd picked, but not holding my breath for anything. There were a couple of real possiblities, but nothing that knocked our socks off. Then the agent told us about one more house that he thought we might like to see, though we hadn't planned on it. It is a two-story, which i've been opposed to and didn't want to look at anything with stairs. But we decided we'd go ahead and look at it based on his description.
.
Oh, boy! I fell in love with a two-story house.
It wasn't like some where there is one straight, narrow flight of stairs. It was all open and the stairs had a landing dividing them in the middle. The upstairs has a loft appearance from below with the landing up there being the hallway and open to the area below, with a rail, of course. The flow of the house was not like the average two-story. It was open and airy and not segregated like the upstairs is another universe. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs and they are all big. We could fit two or three sets of bunkbeds in each with ease, i think. Boys room and girls room. I even loved the paint colors in the bedrooms and bathrooms. The master suite was dreamy. The master bath was almost as big as our current bedroom, actually if you include the closets in the bath, it is as big or bigger than our bedroom now. The kitchen is amazing. The pantry is like i've never seen before. The dining area is small, though, so we'll have to measure it to see if our table and family will fit. The best things, though, is the location is perfect and it is on almost 2 acres of level land. Level lots are hard to come by around here. It is an area that is growing and will only increase in value. Some of the neighboring houses are amazing and huge with lots of land. There are some trailer homes adjacent to the property we looked at, but they were well-maintained, not the red-neck variety we often see in Arkansas.
.
so, what's not to love? Well, the price is a stretch, but within reach. Especially after he ran the market analysis on our home. I had no idea it had appreciated so much. Also, the owner is willing to negotiate and also willing to divide the acreage and sell the house with just one acre. We'd like to hold onto both acres as an investment, as we could sell it later on for a good profit.
.
My husband likes the house, but he's not in love. He doesn't fall in love easily. I didn't think i did, either. The asking price is his stop sign, but i see the negotiation as a green to yellow light. He is going to ask questions today and talk to a friend who is a mortgage lender and we'll see where we stand. We'll need to go back out and look again before making an offer and maybe i won't like it as much. My brain was busy all night thinking of things to look at more critically.
.
Our house needs some work to prep it for sale. Mostly some fresh paint here and there and fixing some wallpaper one of the kids ripped up in the kitchen. I need to streamline closets and bookshelves and do some deep cleaning. It is amazing how you look at your surroundings so differently when you think about having strangers come walk through it with a critical eye.
.
So, i will be busy for awhile trying to get everything ready. Even if we don't buy the house i fell in love with, things need to be done around here and we could find another house that we both go ga-ga over so this one needs to be ready to go.
