Apr. 11, 2008 - Show and Tell Friday.....First Food
How 'bout some cute baby pics for this week's Show and Tell? Sure beats all the weather posts i've been doing and sick kid posts. My blog has become such a downer....sorry about that. I'll try to post more upbeat and fun things next week.
.
So this week Hope got her first taste of real food.
Fresh mashed banana!
What are you putting in my mouth, Mom?????? Eject, eject!
Hmmm...i'm just not so sure about this.
Smack, smack...keep it coming, Mom. That stuff isn't too bad.
You can see by her chin that her hemangioma hasn't grown back at all since her last treatment in January. We are very excited about that. There is just the faintest little spot that looks more like a shadow...you'd never notice it.
.
We'll stick with banana this week and next week we're moving up to avocadao. Should be interesting.
I'm going to try to make all my own baby food this time. I've not done much of that before. I plan to make a big batch at a time, pour it into ice cube trays to freeze, then pop out a portion to thaw each day. We'll see how it works.
.
Don't forget to visit CanadaGirl and Mr. Linky to cruise around to other Show and Tell posts!

Joe had another x-ray this morning. His pneumonia is about half of what it was. So, we're starting another round of antibiotics...Zithromax this time. I hate to give them so many antibiotics. I'm having him drink plenty of kefir and yogurt on the side to keep the balance in his gut. We'll re-check him in 2 weeks.
I did ice cube tray babyfood with all five of my children and it was healthier and cheaper by far! My babies did great with it. I did not do corn (very little nutritional value and hard to digest) or meats (babies don't really need it until they are old enough to actually eat it anyway). If is was at all runny I would add a bit of rice cereal. If it was too thick I would add a little "mommy milk" or water.
The only time we used jarred food was when we were on a vacation that I did not have access to blender, freezer, etc. and at those times my babies diapers had some weird consistencies in them.
Those are cute pictures.
Sorry your son has to be on Zithromax. Sarah was on it once, had a horrible reaction to it. That's now listed as an antibiotic she can not take. :) I pray it helps clear up the rest of his pneumonia and that he doesn't have to take anymore.

Hi, I just stopped over to check and see what was happening around your way. The baby is so big already! I remember those were fascinating times when they were first learning how to work with a spoon. The first couple of times they spit out more than went in, and within a few weeks, they're grabbing the spoon for you!
Thanks for sharing, and I will lift up the bout with pneumonia to the Lord. Sounds as if He has given you much wisdom through the healing process.
She is a doll! Love those blue eyes and red hair! I have one of those kind too! I hope Joe is feeling better soon. Great choice that kefir - do you make it yourself? We have been for about 9 months now. I will pray that the Lord will guide your church search.
Your baby has the most beautiful red hair! Did you know my DD is pg with #6? Due in August. Gulp. I don't know how she does it, but being the Grandma is sure fun.
I think I will start Baby Boy on bananas in the next month or so. I always hold off as long as I can. It sounds like you are doing the "Nourishing Traditions" method. That is what I did with Missy Blue although I cannot remember how the avocados went over. Have you tried the egg yolk thing?
I also have made my own baby food. I have done the ice cube tray method but found that the easiest thing was to use a portable baby food grinder and then grind up whatever veggie we were eating at a meal which worked great!
I LOVE Hope's chubby cheeks! Makes me want to pinch them. :)
Wow, that pneumonia is hanging on a long time! :( I'll keep praying for Joe. -- Amy
Oh, I remember the first day of solids so vividly. They are so funny when they try new foods. Camille is my most finicky eater by far. I'm glad the pneumonia is getting better. Praise God for that. I can imagine how stressful that has been on him and on you guys. Sarah had only mild pneumonia once, and it was quite ugly.
