Apr. 16, 2008 - Random Rambling

We've been so busy the last several days!

On Saturday we went to work with Daddy at an air show in another town.

We all enjoyed being outside and seeing a lot of different airplanes including some experimentals.  (this one isn't an experimental)

There was plenty of room for the kids to run free in a big field.

When we were tromping around out there we came across a skeleton of what might have been a dog,  intact, but bleached white.......Kade got real excited about it and said, "Look!  A dinosaur!"

Sadly, Cale got stung by a wasp on his thumb.  It swelled up pretty bad for a couple of days.  He was supposed to go up and fly, but didn't feel well after being stung.

.

We attended a survival skills workshop on how to find safe water to drink if you are out in the wild.  It was very interesting and we learned a lot that i hope we never have to use.

.

Rick went to scope out a local church for our family.  He said it was good, but its not the one for our family.

We have a lead on another one that sounds like it might be what we're looking for, just don't know til we actually go.  We are enjoying our home church times currently.  We'd love to find a couple of other like-minded families with which to fellowship.

.

Yesterday was our group day and we learned all about frogs.  The kids each made a frog life cycle poster.  They played frog games and had leaping contests.  Then we hiked about a mile round trip to look for tadpoles.  We found a small snake...that was exciting.  He was swimming in the water. After much searching we did find some tadpoles.  They collected them to examine more closely, then released them.  I was worn out after carrying both girls all that way!  (Hope was in front in the wrap and Joy was on my hip.)  Anyhow, after our vacation i am planning to collect frog eggs and raise them and also to do butterflies again.

.

I'm also working (slowly) on swapping out our winter clothes for our summer wardrobes.

I'll be packing soon.  We will be going to Tennessee and i'm actually starting to look forward to it.  I'll share the details after our trip.  I am taking steps now to prepare for the trip.

.

I'm in the middle of reading The Heart of Wisdom.  Part of me wants to just stop our school right now until i finish and decide what direction to go next.  I really like the HOW approach....unit studies have always appealed to me.  We used to do a lot of unit studies and lapbooks, but with morning sickness and toddlers i just lost my pep and ability to plan really well so we've gone to curriculum that is easy for me to pull off, but we really miss our old way of study.  I think i'm ready to jump back in now.  It's something that i really need to think and pray about..

I am changing curriculm for the littles soon here as well. I am almost positive that I am moving to Winter Promise. It is Charlotte Mason based but has a nice unit study feel and I will actually get some history in next year. Winter Promise will cover literature, Bible, History, and art. It is also all planned out for me so I don't have to think to much. Getting my big teen through his Senior year is enough without worrying to much about the littles.
Blessings,
Dawn
