Apr. 25, 2008 - This and That

Joe had his re-check today. It went well. There is still a small spot of pneumonia left, but with continued use of the inhaler for a bit longer, it should clear up and be gone. Yay!

He and Rick are off to a scout campout tonight. Yes, it is raining on them for a bit, but should clear out soon. The line of severe storms seemed to break up and diminish just as it neared where they are camping, praise the Lord!

We are so thankful for the gorgeous spring weather we've been having. We've spent a lot of time outdoors exploring God's creation.........catching tadpoles and frogs, seeking out slugs, digging in the yard, and going to the parks.

We are taking our Spring Break this next week...we are all so ready for it. After our break it will be back to the books. We'll begin studying Ancient Rome in history and continuing our animal studies. We'll be delving a bit into genetics, too......which guinea pig will get what color fur based on the dominant and recessive genes of the parents, etc. I've always thought that was an intriguing area of study.

Anyhow, i'm going to download the Heart of Wisdom study on Rome and i am excited to do one of their studies.  I finished reading the book and have begun reading "A Charlotte Mason Companion."  It is excellent and i look forward to implementing some of her ideas into our homeschool.  I wish i had discoverd it years ago.  I had always heard about it, but never really paid attention because i liked what we were doing.

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new Language Arts curriculum....CQLA.   I've been hoping for Mr. UPS Man to come to my door each day this week, but so far he is a no-show. I love getting new books!

Hope rolls over now. She is enjoying eating avocado, bananas, and blueberries. She was NOT impressed with applesauce. Next week we venture into the realm of carrots...should be good.

Joy's vocabulary and pronunciation is exploding. She said the sweetest little prayer tonight for dinner all by herself. She is non-stop talk these days and still a ball of energy to be reckoned with.

I saw two hummingbirds today! I so love seeing them right outside our windows. I am thrilled that they are back from their migration. One was so small he seemed to fit right inside the azalea blooms outside the girl's window.

And i'll leave you with a cute kid quote......

a pencil is wooden ink.....a la Joe

He was so serious when he said it, too.

Glad he's feeling better, and it sounds like things are going good with you. We just got out CQLA today in the mail, but it was the mail, not UPS. I've been reading the teachers manual tonight, I'm really liking it. :)

I love a Charlotte Mason Companion. That book was one of the first I ever read and I read parts of it every year to gear up for what it to come. We are loving the spring weather too. So glad it is finally here. I better get down to getting the garden in.
Blessings,

I am so very glad that the inhaler did it's thing and Joe is improving. That is wonderful. I love the spring weather too. We had a bad freeze last week that has damaged a few early budders. But everything looks lovely just the same.

I saw a himmingbird the other day. I was wearing a red tshirt and he must have thought I was a giant flower because he was right in my face!

I just ordered a Charlotte Mason Companion and I'm trying to read For the Children's Sake. I look forward to hearing your ideas on this.
