May. 11, 2008 - Happy Mother's Day!

I hope all of you fabulous Moms out there had a terrific Mother's Day.

We went and bought flowers to plant today.  We got a lot of flowers for the front yard and a few for the back.  The kids picked out most of the flowers with a little bit of guidance from me.  We tried to pick varieties that would attract our hummingbirds and butterflies.  We did our planting this afternoon and enjoyed the gorgeous 70 degree weather.  Out front we put in yellow and orange marigolds and purple petunias next to our pre-existing hostas and oak tree.  We added some red salvia near the mailbox with some pre-existing white sage (i think).  Up by the house, we trimmed up the azalea bush and the nandinas and added red impatiens and some red verbena.

In the back yard we put up two flower pots full of petunias (red and pink) and we added a planter onto the fence and filled it with red petunias.  I also purchased a tomato plant and need to put it in the pot on the back porch.  Hopefully i will  have more success this year and no rot.

.

I am thrilled that i will get to enjoy my Mother's Day flowers all summer long and i hope that they will attract more hummers and butterflies to our yard which will just multiply the joy i find in my yard.

My sweet hubby also took me out for lunch at a good Mexican place where the kids eat free on Sunday.  At the end of our meal the waitress brought out a big plate of cinnamon and sugar sopapillas with whipped cream for me for Mother's Day.  It was free and was yummy, too, though a bit of a sugar overload.  I can't believe we've gotten used to not eating sugar to the point that it is almost too sweet when we do.

.

Ya, ya, where are the pictures?  Can you believe i haven't taken any?  Nope, not one.  I'll try to get back to my old shutterbug habits soon.

Happy Mother's day. I am glad you will be able to enjoy your flowers all summer. I didn't take a single picture of the day either.
Blessings,
Dawn

It sounds like a great Mother's day. I hope those flowers attract what you want them too. :)
