May. 20, 2009 - Life: Re-focused

It is really kinda hard to change bad habits.  I am able to stay off the computer for the most part, but when I sit to eat a bit, sip my coffee, or I'm waiting that last five or ten minutes for the oven to finish up I find myself wanting to sit down and check online for a just a bit.  Some of that is ok, I think.

Anyhow, I have gotten the pantry majorly cleaned out.  It looks kinda bare in there.  Things that I thought might be airtight, I have learned the moths don't agree.  I was truly surprised by how many I actually found.  We weren't majorly overrun, we'd just see a couple here and there, but there was a good family of them in there.  I hope they are all gone now.  I have quite a few items residing in the freezer for this week just to make sure to kill anything that might be on or in it.

I have gotten my laundry just about totally caught up.  My house is cleaner.  I've been able to read some of the books I want the boys to read.  We've done more preschool work.  The socks have been sorted out.
And I"ve made some hairbows for the girls.

Monday night, we went to the Boy Scouts' Court of Honor.  My oldest received his Tenderfoot rank and also was awarded a Photography Merit Badge.  We are proud of him.  He is really motivated this week to work toward his next rank and has been working on a couple of other badges, too.  I'm encouraging him to work toward a Gardening badge....selfish of me, eh?

Work on the bathroom has ceased for the time.  We talked to our insurance company yesterday and a plumbing company is supposed to contact me today to come and look at what is going on in there.  I'm a bit anxious to see what they say.  If they go one way, the work will start soon on the clean-up, if they go the other we have to wait two weeks for a real adjuster to come out and look at it.   Then, who knows?

So far, seven people sharing one bathroom is working out okay.  I did tell Joe the other day that Bob Hope said he learned to dance while waiting for his six siblings to get out of the bathroom.  He didn't really know who Bob Hope was, but he got the point.

For the rest of the week, I plan to clean out all the kitchen cabinets, learn to sew cloth diapers, really clean out my bedroom, box up the garage sale stuff (who knows when we'll do the sale!), clean out the garage, get Kade out on his bike without training wheels and work in the garden some more. Oh, I also have my OB appt and glucola test.  And we have chess club and hopefully we'll get to the pool for more swimming practice.

Back to work........

You certainly are taking it all in stride. You amaze me. It seems that pregnancy affords you with more energy instead of less! I hope your experience with your insurance claims adjuster is pleasant. It would be nice for them to cover the bathroom so you can have the money to get back to the kitchen sink and counters.

Have a wonderful day, dear.

Did something happen in your home, or are you just spring cleaning/ remodeling? I haven't checked in over the last few posts, so I was hoping that nothing had happened that wasn't positive.

Write when you can and let me know how've you been feeling.

Oh I sure do feel for you with the mold. My last house became infected with mold. Two rooms would grow it all over the walls and ceiling. It was horrid and I was highly allergic. Luckily, we didn't have the "bad kind" either. When it rains, it pours. You certainly have a lot on your plate. The hairbows are adorable. I love the strawberry dress too. So pretty. Thinking of you.

Wow are are getting lots done. I pray blessings on all your projects going on. I LOVE the girls bows ! I pray all your reno's get done quickly and easily without too much cost.

I also know what you mean about Facebook. Well not totally. I realized how a person could get sucked into all of it. I kinda tried twitter but for some reason I couldn't be bothered with either. I felt that my blog was all I had time for and didn't want to lose my homeschool buddies. I need like minded ones around me. I have to say I really miss your little notes but I am thankful for what you do leave. ((hugs)) You are a special blogging buddy my SSiC.

Wow, you've gotten a lot accomplished. It's great to have a list of things to work on, and then wonderful when you get to actually cross things off as you complete them. So much of what I do is repeated everyday (dishes, laundry, etc.) It's cool to actually complete something.

I think it's the purpose behind our actions that make the most difference. If checking facebook is our way of taking a 5 minute breather, then good, do it and move on, it becomes a problem when the purpose has been met (our 5 min, break), but we continue to mindlessly wander around facebook or blogland.

It is neat to read how others are refocusing their energies, and to see what a difference we can make.
