"It is only by introducing the young
to great literature, drama, and music,
and to the excitement
of great science,
that we open to them
the possibilities
that lie within the human spirit--
enable them to see visions
and dream dreams."

It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.
It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart."

"Cleaning and scrubbing
can wait 'til tomorrow.
For babies grow up,
we learn to our sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs!
Dust, go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby,

Sep. 30, 2009 - PBS
We love PBS at our house. OK, so our old TV with the digital converter box only receives PBS and CBS so there aren't a lot of choices there. We do get 3 PBS stations, though, and the one called Create is my favorite. Lately I have been watching it late at night while rocking the baby. I'm enjoying watching the painter's create their magic on canvas.
This week our whole family has been watching Ken Burns' National Parks series on PBS. Even on our 20 yr old tv, the scenery is stunning. I can only imagine how it would look on HDTV. The series has been very interesting and we are learning quite a bit about history, nature, and politics. Our appetites have been whet to go and see some of the parks, especially Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon, though it's most likely that we'll see the Smoky Mtns. before we ever make it out west. It is really making us want to get outside and connect with God through nature. Like many of the quotes on the series have at least alluded to, we feel closer to God in nature than anywhere else. The trees and canyons and peaks are a cathedral created by His hand and the winds whisper His name.
Our weather here has been gorgeous the past few days. We did go out to a pumpkin patch last weekend, but wanted to get out an enjoy the beautiful days even more. This afternoon we took off to play outside and I took along the camera. Hence these lovely shots of the girls.
I bet you were starting to think I was only taking baby photos these days Speaking of the baby, she weighed in at 9 lbs today for her check up and has grown more than 2 inches!
The photos are beautiful!! The girls are growing so much from when I first started reading your blog. The baby's adorable. Tylar has a little peach fuzz on top and tons on the back of her head. By the way, I love your new look on the blog.
If you ever do get out west to Western WA, we'd love to host you and play tour guide!!
We love PBS and have three of their channels too. However, we do not have a create channel. That would be really cool. That new convertor box sure doesn't give many of us a selection of channels. We only have a few channels too. I thought it was because we live in the mountains.
You asked me about homemade laundry detergent~ I use the powdered form for tough loads. We have lots of clay in our soil so mud is a big problem to get out even for Tide.
8 cups Baking Soda
8 cups Washing Soda
8 cups grated bar soap (I use dove but I am thinking of trying a tougher organic gardening soap)
Keep in sealed container. I add borax to muddy loads.
I also use the liquid form for lighter loads. I just googled homemade liquid laundry detergent and use the Duggars recipe.
You also asked about a dent and scratch store vs. Wallmart. Yes, because we have a dent and scratch store that sells lots of gluten free and organic products I save loads over walmart. I got a weeks worth of food last night for $80. It included some luxuries such as a shrimp platter, rice dream ice cream bars, cage free eggs and organic frozen sausage. I only need to go to wallmart for sugar. dry beans and salad fixings. However, I would be aware that not all states forbid the sale of expired food. Our state does forbid that but not all. Hope this helps.
Blessings,
Dawn
The pics look professional. What kind of camera do you use? Also, the lighting looks good for being in the house. Do you do anything special with the lighting? Very nice.
I have a maya wrap but find it uncomfortable. I wish I had a Moby wrap.
