Raised Bed

Jun. 3, 2007 - 10:44 PM
For Mother's Day my husband and 2 eldest sons built me my first raised bed garden. We filled it full of topsoil and proceeded to fill it with lots of yummy little seedlings. Three weeks later everything looks beautiful. Looks too good, now I am starting to worry that our neighbors, the bunnies and deer will start noticing. Yikes, anyone have any ideas for keeping the little critters away?
Blessings,
Andrea

Thanks for sharing in your previous post your info on deafness. I can only imagine the difficulties, and I can't even do that very well. Thank you for bringing the tough stuff to the attention of others, I pray getting info like this out to others will help the future be better for kids with handicaps. Also, wish I could help with the garden and keeping the critters away, don't have a clue. I hope you continue to enjoy it, what a wonderful Mother's Day gift!!

I just need to tell you thanks. You have been an inspiration to me. :) Remember Gina's contest with the homeschool rooms? Your organizational skills were really showing and it spurred me on to create my own organization. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/RollsLife/Homeschooling%2BLife/
Thank you again.

I'm reading this a month after you posted so I am simply hoping your garden has survived. My gardening friend says to cut a bar of Irish Springs soap into quarters (approximately). Cut as many bars as you will need to space each chunk 6-12 inches apart around the perimeter of you garden bed. She says it works! The deer and bunnies will not cross the boundary of soap cubes!
Also, loved seeing your profile in The Old Schoohouse!

You have a beautiful blog. It is neat reading about what challenges God has put in others lives. I studied sign language interpreting for a year after marriage/before children. I enjoy sign language but I had trouble with the "community". I just could not understand it completely. I supposed after my children are grown I may return to that profession. But unless I start teaching my children sign language I suppose I will not remember much over the years.

Hi, I think I've seen you at the TOG forum. I'm new to blogging and found your link at Marcia's blog. I think it's neat you got this raised bed. I love gardening and several years ago we lived on base in North Texas where I had raised beds...and base bunnies galore coming in to nibble. So dh put a fence around the raised bed to keep the bunnies out. It was a pain to reach in and step over but kept out the cute creatures. I'd have loved it if dh could have put the fence further out around the garden with a little gate for easier access. To keep deer out, I know the fence has to be high. Hope your garden is doing well. You have a lovely blog and I'm looking forward to reading more.
Blessings,
Laurie
