Happy Father's Day
view my Creative Ideas entries

Jun. 15, 2006 - 12:53 PM

Every year for Father's Day we make Dad a hand print t-shirt. We have been doing this since there were only 3 little hands to put on. Now with 8 hands to paint my creative juices are more challenged. I thought I would share this year's shirt hot off the press this morning. Feet are the novelty for 2006!
Blessings,
Andrea

Tight for Space?
view my Creative Ideas entries

Jun. 12, 2006 - 8:24 AM

Tight in space for all your school books? Have a fire place but just no time for romantic fires any more. Then you’re just in luck! Take out your gas logs (if applicable) give the inside a good cleaning. Add some bright paint. Find someone who is handy in wood working and have them custom make some removable shelves for your fireplace. Our fireplace was gas so I had him make a bottom stage shelf to cover the piping for the gas. Some day in the future we might want to reactivate the fire place! Trouble shooting…..you will need to have something on top to protect your books from falling ashes or moisture when it gets really windy outside. I discovered this the hard way! Special cut foam board works!
Blessings,
Andrea

School Books
view my Creative Ideas entries

Jun. 8, 2006 - 3:29 AM

Having 8 kids challenges my organizational abilities. In trying to create efficiency in our classroom I decided to go with the bucket drawers for the kid’s school books. Each child has a drawer labeled with their name on it. Even the toddlers as they need to feel part of our school too. This is where the kids keep their personal school books and supplies (the little guys keep their picture Bibles, coloring books, flash lights, whatever they think is important, in there). Clutter starts to accumulate so when we are on breaks they clean out their drawers.
Blessings,
Andrea

Grey Books
view my Creative Ideas entries

Jun. 6, 2006 - 8:32 AM

Back when TOS had their homeschool classroom contest I talked about our - grey books -. I use these for daily scheduling and they serve as long term records for the kids as well. I purchase hard back spiral notebooks at the beginning of the school year. Hardback are more expensive but the soft back just do not hold up. Our original books had grey fronts thus the name. Now they are all different colors but we still call them - grey books -. I print off weekly check-off schedules for the kids. They trim them and glue their paper into their spiral notebooks. I start this process with the kids as soon as they are old enough to cut/glue/and check. It teaches them basic organizational skills and to start taking some ownership for their own education. I have the kids keep these separate from their regular school books in a filing system located on my desk. Thus when I want to check their accountability I have easy access to their schedules.

Andrea

Book Display
view my Creative Ideas entries

Jun. 5, 2006 - 8:22 AM

In our classroom, I have 2 walls that we have turned into book displays. This makes it more enticing for readers to want to take a book off the shelf. I change the selection of books seasonally, around holidays and what we are studying in school. Ours were custom made along with our book shelves. I have seen more affordable versions made from plastic rain gutters. I think if I had to do it again I would use the rain gutter as it dips down deeper than our wooden lips, thus the books do not fall over as easily.
Blessings,
Andrea
