Nov. 12, 2007 - Holiday Gift Ideas

Chili over at Don't Try This At Home is hosting the Holiday Shopping Carnival. Go here (scroll down) to see tons of great gift ideas. Here are a few of mine:
I LOVELOVELOVE to make homemade gifts!!! But I HATEHATEHATE the pressure I put myself under to get them all done!! This year I hope I've picked some things that the people on my list will enjoy AND that won't turn me into "meltdown mommy" by Christmas Eve!
Every year we hold a birthday party for Jesus on Christmas Eve. At the end of the evening, we give each of our children one gift to open. In the past we have given them things like matching hoodies, sheet sets for their beds, and matching pajamas and slippers. This year I am planning to make them each no-sew fleece blankets (scroll down a bit on the page). Barb over at A Chelsea Morning has a great picture tutorial. If they go together as quickly as I'm hoping, I plan to make them for my dad and step-mom, and also for my grandparents and hubby's parents.
We also give our children a game to open (and play!) Christmas Eve. Some years everyone gets their own game, sometimes the boys get one and the girls get another, and occasionally (especially as the younger ones get older) we find a game the whole family would enjoy. This year I think we will buy Apples to Apples, a fun game from Mindware that we have all played (and loved) at other people's houses throughout this past year.
A few other things I'd like to do:
- This NO-SEW Fringed Purse for the girls age 8 - 30 on my list.
- These fleece pillowcases for the boys age 8 - 30 on my list. Depending on how much time I have, I may include these with my children's fleece blankets also.
- Fleece mittens for all of my children's stockings. I also am going to try doubling the thickness so that maybe they will stay dry longer outside.
- I think I'm going to try my hand at those cute little bubble magnets I've seen all over the internet lately. You can fit six in an altoids tin .... a nice gift for Sunday School teachers, mailmen, etc. We'll be eating altoids for the next couple of years though! LOL! Besides pictures cut out of magazines, you can also use fabric .... or photos. My plan is to make sets of 6 and also decorate the tin to match somehow. :o)
