Feb. 1, 2009 - A Ton of Bricks!

Posted in Life

When life gets overwhelming for me, I tend to withdraw into myself. Do you ever do that? I quit returning phone calls, I cancel appointments and playdates, I even forego my quiet times with the Lord.  Somehow I just don't feel worthy to come before the King of kings.  I begin listening to the evil one, who is all to happy to feed my fears.

This morning we celebrated communion during our worship service.  As the "wine" (grape juice!) was being passed, and the congregation was quietly praying, this is the verse that came to my mind:

A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.
-Proverbs 18:1, NKJV

Wow!  It suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks!! I not only "hide" from God, I tend to isolate myself from everyone, especially my Christian friends, for fear disapproval and 'wise judgment'.

Today I'm praising God for showing me how I tend to retreat, withdraw, avoid difficult situations.  This is not the example I want to set for my children.  I want them to know that especially during the hard times, we should be drawing close to Him, and allowing His body to draw close to us.

Praise the Lord, He loves me unconditionally!!

I just posted about the same thing AND included the very same verse on my blog a week ago yesterday! Check it out here: http://aknittingjunkie.blogspot.com/2009/01/let-confessions-begin.html

With that said, I totally relate. I am the Queen of withdrawing into myself and doing my best to block everything and everyone out when I am overwhelmed, and yes, that includes God. I don't understand why, because I know with all that I am that He is my refuge and I should be running into the comfort of His arms and not away from them.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you hun.

Feb. 2, 2009 - Lived/Seen It Too

I've done that. In the last couple years I simply haven't been able to, although I would have LOVED too. Especially after this past year.

I have a girlfriend who currently does it. I've called her on the carpet about it - friendly like. As in, you fell off the face of the earth again, what's rotten in your life? She's always amazed I know... lol

I just stumbled on this post, but it was still timely to me! Gulp....we stayed home from church Sunday for the same reason -- wrong thing to do! Thank you for the excellent reminder!
