Marine Turtles, Terrapins, and Tortoises, Oh My!

Posted in Homeschool Days

We learned about the different turtles today. There are marine turtles (saltwater), terrapins (freshwater), and tortoises. It made Alex miss his box turtle. When we got him, he was only about 3/4 of an inch wide. When he was 3 1/2 inches wide, we let him go. He was getting way too big for his tank. Not to mention, we had been feeding him shrimp pellets so he got way too fat for his shell. Whoops! We put Crush, which was his name, in our pond out back. He has since disappeared. We think that he may have gone down to the creek in the woods behind us. Well, our Reptile Unit has come to an end. Catherine made a 100, Alex made a 91, and Samantha made an 82 on the test for this unit. Samantha was a little disappointed about her grade. She always studies really hard for tests. She had mixed up the differences between an alligator and a crocodile. She actually knew the right answer....she just read the question wrong. We will be learning about water creatures next. Check back for more!
