Mar. 21, 2008 - More on Cattails
Posted in Nature Studies

We've been learning about cattails ( read more ) and have attempted to grow our own ( grow your own ). Melissa was kind enough to point me to another fabulous blog that had a cattail notebooking page, so today we added to our cattail notes. We read how the Native Americans used cattails years ago -- for mattresses, doll making, furniture, to make diapers, they also roasted the female part and ate it like corn on the cob! Very informative!

Thank you again, Melissa & to Jetihoja Academy for putting the page together!

Your kids look like they are having such fun. Isn't it neat all the things you can do with homeschooling?

You're so welcome for the recommendation to Tina's blog! Looks like they are learning lots of great stuff!

So how many of those cattails did you have explode into a big fluff storm of seeds?!! My kids got some from a pond last weekend to bring home, and Alex decided to pull "some" seeds out of one on the way home. Let's just say I had a time gettng all those little seeds out. They are still floating around in my car! But we did manage to get one home all in one piece to study!

Blessings, Melissa
