Apr. 4, 2008 - Life of a Seed
Posted in Gardening

Photobucket

I originally planned on reading this book with my 3 year old. I thought it would help him understand a bit more about the seeds we planted in the last weeks. When we sat down to read it, I was pleasantly surprised at the wealth of information. The other kids were 'listening' as they were journaling and working on their own. Soon I found the big kids in the room with us asking questions and wanting to see what we were reading about. So I started over and re-read the book to everyone.  It talks of germination & pollenation which was perfect, since as I mentioned before we planted seeds recently. I even learned a few things myself and dad too! Surprisng what we can learn from a 'kids' book. Maybe add it to your own garden/seed planting study.

Here's a couple jounral pages about it. They wrote their explainations of the process on back.

That's really neat. We've found that happening here, too. I don't think much about reading through children's books for my younger son, and then the older one is soooo intrigued he can't stand it anymore.

Love the pages and the artwork! :')

It's funny because I've been really wanting to do more "outdoor" projects with the kids. I feel like they are getting burned out with just the daily workbook. It's like I feel I need to challenge them more and get them to be excited about school (me as well). I love your ideas and I'm more than likely going to use some of them. Just know that what you're doing is totally blessing people like myself, that feel like we're going in circles!! I haven't been to Buddies much either, and I know it's for a season. I'll pop in and post when I feel led to or when I have time. I just know that I need to do more productive things with my online time. I think I'm going to like blogging because like you said, it will help me also keep accountable!!! I'm excited to see what else the Lord has in store for us!!!!

My library has this book, cool, I just put it on hold!

Oh yes, I'd love to share cloud study ideas! I'm adding a couple more quick things to my list, and then I'll email them to you, or I may post my plans on my blog. I've even got some art and poetry to go with it all so far! And I'm waiting for a bunch of library books to come in to see if any are good. Please, I'd love to hear your ideas too.

Can't wait to hear about the bird feet study you're doing!

Have a wonderful Friday evening!

Can I just send my son to live with you? : ) All these neat projects look more fun than the things I have thought of lately.
I am going to borrow the bird beak and the sunflower ideas. Did you know there is a site (have to find the name) where you can get a free pack of sunflower seeds and then do a study on bees to find out why they are disappearing? We have signed up to do that.

Wow that's awesome!

How do you think of what to do with your kids. Do you plan the activities? Do they do other stuff like math, writing, etc. I like the way you teach, so I am very interested.

We just got that book in with the rest of our spring basket of books.

I'm going to be working on putting together our mini spring units this week.

Blessings,
