We've completed our whale study. Here are a few of the main points we learned. This is laid out in the kids' lapbooks as well.
-
whales are divided into 'baleen' & 'toothed' whales
-
the different names of whales in those two categories ( examples: gray, humpback, right, narwhal, beluga, blue )
-
whale movements - logging, spyhopping, breaching, & lobtailing
-
how sound travels through water as opposed to air; the way whales communicate & the sounds they make
-
this was an excellent place to go over the story of Jonah & the whale; discussing what we can learn from that story
-
the kids also wrote a short whale story
The only thing left to do is to make whales out of clay for our 'ocean' box. We won't be getting to that for a couple weeks.
Cutting, coloring, organizing all our information to go into the books
Gluing everything into the books
The finished products ~ lapbooks ~ explained on video
