Canada Day Photos

Posted in Just Thoughts

Tuesday was Canada Day and despite the littles still being some what sick we had a nice day.  Dh had some errands to do but after supper we took the kids for a walk at the park.  They got to see all the animals (birds and deer) and play for a while.

Then we headed home and dh surprised them with a few fireworks!  They LOVED it we'll have to get some more before summers over.

Little dd2 wasn't to sure about it!

Goodies!

Posted in Just Thoughts

Well I received a few surprises this week.  Dh had me order some farming DVD's for him Monday night and also a food mill.200-Victorio Strainer The DVD's weren't suppose to be in until Fri but came Wen's morning.  The food mill was listed as out of stock but it came the same day to!   I'm getting all my Birthday and Christmas gifts early this year lol!  Anyway last night Laura got to stay up late with me and we did down half a bushel of apples.  Oh my did it ever go so quickly with this!!  What would normally taken me days of pealing, slicing, cooking and mashing was done in one evening!!  I LOVE it!  And dd is so happy that she can "make" the apple sauce her self.  She turns the handle heehee.  I have a bushel of mac's left to do still.  I'll hopefully get going on that tomorrow and save some of the sauce to make apple butter.  Oh we got 10 quart jars from the half bushel, plus a huge bowl full for each of us to eat.

Yesterday dh came home early from work, his back was hurting him badly.  We are both fighting a virus and I woke up with a pinch in my back this morning.
But we made it out shopping anyway.  I picked up Rachel's birthday gift.  It's so hard to belive she'll be 1 in a few weeks!  Then I hit two different dollar stores and stocked up on activity books.  I found the paint with water books, sticker books, coloring books etc.  I'm making up activity boxes as Christmas presents for the girls.  I also got each a harmonica and a tamberean and recorder.  Note to self a box of ear plugs for Mommy and Daddy lol.  I know they will love these as the love music and crafts!  I also found some nice winter themed mugs.  They will make great gifts with drink mixes and such.  Oh yes I found a few cook books in there to and got two for me and as gifts.  Yes I caved I collect cook books.
Did the grocery shopping, boy the stores are packed today!  The bulk store was OUT of eggs and yoghurt and wont have more for a few weeks....So I'll have to get them else were.  Dh is taking me to the health food store tomorrow.  I need to pick up some natural sugar, cod liver oil, glucoamean (sp??) and yoghurt.

So a good bit of my Christmas shopping is done.  How are you all coming along?  Have you started yet?  Are you making gifts this year?  I'm working on some crochet and sewn items to.

Friday On The Homestead

Posted in Just Thoughts

Well we got a fair bit done today.  We went to the health food store this morning and I picked up some earache drops that are mainly mullein, garlic, and St. Johns wort I can't remember what else is in them right now.  And also some homeopathic earache tablets to try.  But hopefully we wont need any of this, this year!  I also picked up a few other things to try.  Boy I could spend a lot of money in that store LOL!!  I did see a few things I want but were just to much money, I can make them cheaper.  Such as elderberry syrup/tincture I soon need to order some berries to do that.

On the way home we stopped to pick up my bassinet, my friends baby was done with it.  Once home dh worked some more on cleaning out the shop it's almost done!  And I've been working at getting caught up inside.  The living room's vacuumed, all dishes are done, counters washed, stove washed, floor swept and mopped.

In the morning the insurance agent will be here to photo the stove.  After that's done we are heading out to finish our shopping.  I need some grocery, and also need to stop by a kids thrift shop (want to look at the books), walmart and a few other spots.  One stop will be to get a few oil lamps to.  And to track down a new washing machine to!

It's also been snowing alld ay, snow squalls actually and is so pretty!  Hard to belive in a few days it will be raining again (sigh).

Arrrg Washer!

Posted in Just Thoughts

We had to fire a "servant" today. Dh got a chance to look at the washer and thinks the belt is just worn down to much to work.  He tried to find a place to tighten it so I could get a day or two more out of it...but there was no were.  So he's decided that the price of finding getting a belt and someone out here to put it on would cost close to getting a "new" used one.  Since it also leeks bad and likes to shred blankets/pillows/jackets arrrg.  It's going to the dump tomorrow.  He phoned an appliance shop we have used before and hopefully they will have one for us.  I'm HOPEING to find a used front loader if we can if not I'll be happy with anything that just WORKS LOL!

Snow, babies and sleep LOL

Posted in Just Thoughts

This morning we woke up to about 2" of snow on the ground.  So after brekie the girls just HAD to go out and play!  It's a good thing to because a few hours latter it started raining.  Now I just checked the weather and we are under a snowsquall warning and a high wind warning for tonight!  Up to a foot of snow and possible power outages.  I'm soooo glad we have our wood stove in!!

Last night was baby's first  night in her own room and it went great!  Instead of waking every 2 hours she slept for 6 hours then woke to nurse then back to sleep for 4 more hours.  I hope tonight is as peaceful!

Thursday On The Homestead

Posted in Just Thoughts

Well I think I'll soon be redoing my blogs to a winter theme.  I KNOW it's technically still Fall but since we've been getting snow on and off AND the winds have blown most of the leaves from the trees....well...it just looks more like early winter then fall!  I really wish I'd been able to get some pretty leaf photos this year!

Dh came home sick from work last night.  He seams to be reacting to a chemical there.  Each time he's around it he comes down with flu like symptoms.  He's been talking to his supervise and will be wearing a mask when he goes into that area and hopefully they will be improving the ventilation in that area also.  He said it's really bad in that spot.

Today we did most of our shopping.  I picked up the few grocery we needed and some things at the dollar store to.  I found some cute Christmas trays and pine cone and snow flake tree decorations.  It was VERY cold in the grocery store today I thought it was me getting the chills lol.  But it turned out there furnace was broken!  And the tellers told me it had been since last Fri.  They sure weren't very happy to be working in such a cold place.  I was sure surprised that such a large store would take so long getting that fixed....  Then we stopped at the conservation park to fill up our water jugs.  We are still using bottled water for drinking/cooking.
Tomorrow evening we need to go back out for a new car seat for baby Rachel and I need to stop by the library.  We couldn't make these stops today because we just ran out of time and dh needed to get to work.

We're supposed to be getting our new kitten this weekend.  But the weather is supposed to be bad, heavy rain/snow mix.  So I don't know if our friend will be able to make it safely down from her place.  But there's always another weekend, safety is much more important!

Cold day & Trivium

Posted in Just Thoughts

Well it’s another cold morning here.  We woke up to a pretty dusting of snow covering the ground.  It’s all melted now and raining on and off.

I’ve been reading Teaching the Trivium and although I’m only in chapter 4 I love the book!  A big thank you to my friend Theresa for telling me about it!  I’m really leaning towards the classical style of homeschooling and note/lap booking also.  My girls although very young seem to LOVE reading and hands on learning.  So I think this will work very well with them.
