• Oct. 7, 2008 - Getting Adjusted

Why does it seem like every year we have to change things around? I have been adjusting a few things because I want to get into some life skills this year with the girls and we seem to be taking forever to get through our book work. I also need to get some kind of physical ed in our day. We are still doing the Book Club and I am going to start the girls on a project like knitting or a quilt. We made pretzels today and they actually came out great.

Well I need to get supper on so I will say bye for now.

• Sep. 5, 2008 - Been away awhile

Sorry I have been away awhile. Between school and ministry it is pretty hectic. My husband has also not been feeling well. He has been battling with some intestinal bacteria that has lasted for two years. We are doing some herbal stuff but it is taking a while to heal.:( Please keep us in prayer.

We are on our 4th day of school and it is going great. The girls are saying it is a lot more fun this year than last and I hope I can keep it that way. Kaylah my oldest, has two more years left and we are plugging as much as we can into the last two years. Our youngest is doing great and enjoying a book club we started in August. We are doing the Call of the Wild by Jack London. So far so good.

Well gotta run. oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii oops my cat was trying to type on the computer. I will try and keep in touch more.

• Jun. 13, 2008 - Summer blitz

We are enjoying the summer weather. It is beautiful. I have 20 days left for my younger daughter. We are doing school at night because it such beautiful weather and we don't get that much here in Maine.

I am trying to find some things to do with the girls without breaking the bank. We are going to do some hiking and kayaking. If anyone has any suggestions I could use some. We are thinking of going to New York. It is only 7 hours away and we would like to see the Museum of Natural History and the Statue of Liberty. That would be an awesome trip.

Well I am glad to be back and I am going to try to be more consistant. It is hard sometimes to do everything.

God bless and have a great day.

• May. 28, 2008 - Good morning

Well we have another beautiful morning in Maine. Although the wind has not let up. It has been windy all month. I think that May should be the month that says "in like a lion out like a lamb" or some such thing.

We said good-bye yesterday to some friends of our girls. They were up here from N.C. . They had been up here for two years because their mother was in the guard going to school for flight training down in Georgia. They are headed back to N.C. this week. We will miss them.

We also found an awesome project online. It is called lapbooking. It is a way to record your unit studies. It takes putting little mini books into a large paper folder and creating a show and tell of the unit study you are doing. It sounds like fun and I can't wait to start. The girls are excited to.

Well I hope everyone out there has a great day in the Lord.

• May. 22, 2008 - Prince Caspian

We went to see the new movie, Prince Caspian. It was great. It didn't go along with the book exactly but most of it did. I am going through the series on audio again to see. But the effects were awesome and it had a great story line.

Even my hubby loved it. And he is not usually into movies. But they really did a great job on it.

I have been enjoying my lawn swing. The birds were out in full force this morning and it was so peaceful to hear all the different sounds and see all the colors of God's creation. All of creation testifies of his greatness.

Well I need to go and get my daughters in motivation. We are having company tomorrow so I need to get the house in ship-shape order.

Oh, one more thing. I don't know if anyone has heard but Steve Curtis Chapman's daughter was killed yesterday by an accident that happened at home. She was struck by the family vehicle and was lifeflighted to a hospital where she died from her injuries. If you go to the website I am sure they will have an address to send cards and flowers. She was 5 years old.

In honor of Marie Sue Chapman. Our prayers are with you and your family.

• May. 20, 2008 - Hello again

I haven't been on for a while. I am going to try to do better. We have had a rough time with our sheltie. He was really sick for about three days. He ate something bad and had to be put on some meds. He is better now though.

We have had one of the weirdest springs ever. It has been windy almost every day and rainy. My flowers are finally coming but it is still in the 30's at night so it is rough coming for them. I have had a good time getting out there in the gardens though. And I finally got a lawn swing for Mother's day so now I can watch the birds and enjoy the outdoors.

We are still finishing up school and getting a few things accomplished. As the warmer weather comes it seems harder to concentrate. But we will prevail.

Well I hope everyone is enjoying the wonderful weather where ever you are and that you have a great day in the Lord.

• May. 13, 2008 - Thy Word is Truth

Isn't God's word amazing? Reading the Psalms is so comforting. I was reading the 30th and the 31st Psalm. It is wonderful how God looks out for us and takes care of us.

God even cares about the little things. Our sheltie has been sick for the past two days and hasn't felt well at all. I have been praying for him and his tummy to feel better. I really believe that God cares even about our pets. No problem is too big for him to solve. Our heavenly father cares for every little thing in our life and takes every detail to heart. The very picture of what a parent should be.

Well I need to go mow the lawn. My husband says that the backyard is my responsibility because I am planting too many things for him to mow around.

Have a great day in the Lord.

• May. 9, 2008 - Bugs and Answered Prayers

We had a great day. We did some Math and English in the morning and then relaxed a little with a fancy tea party.  I think sometimes we are too stringent in our home schooling. I had fun with my youngest daughter. We dressed all up and had Blueberry tea and tuna/cucumber sandwiches for lunch with Thumbprint cookies for dessert. It was really fun.

We then went outside to do some gardening. I dug up some Poplars and planted them in the backyard. Some people may think I am crazy because they don't last a long time but I love it when the wind blows through their leaves. I am trying to build a bird sanctuary in the back. I will have to put some pictures on if I can upload them on our computer. I also planted some Morning Glories in our national colors. Abby helped me water.

She did plant some flowers a few days ago. She planted some Narsturtiams. I am not sure if that is the correct spelling or not. She also planted some California Poppies. The are really pretty.

That is when the bugs came out. We are in black fly season and they come out in force. They literally have you for lunch.  Not my type of enjoyment; being lunch for some Maine black flies.

Well for the answered prayer. I found this website that has history in chronological order. It is the very thing I have needed. We are doing the Medieval ages and were going to study England but I think now Iwill start from the beginning and go through the timeline. It is great. If anyone gets the Homeschool Minute it is on that. Now I can do alot of study from literature and have fun doing it. I feel textbooks at least for us is very dry.  We have more in depth study from library books.  So I will look on our state library website and see if we can't find some of the books they have on there.

God bless all of you and have a great evening.

Isaiah 31:5  As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.

• May. 9, 2008 - Black fly bananza

Well it seems the black flies are out in force. I have gotten some of my gardening done but it seems I can't stay out long for all the flies having a baquet on me. I bought some more seeds today to add to my collection.

Well we have gotten a good book on the brain. I can't wait to read it. It looks really good. I had an idea of making a model of the brain out of salt dough. I love the stuff. My daughter made a volcano out of it and we have made other things to. I have tried to upload some pictures but my computer is really slow.

Well anyway I need to start school. My oldest is doing a bake sale today and then going on a bottle drive for her youth group.

Hope everyone is well and happy and has a great day in the Lord.

• May. 7, 2008 - Full bloom of spring

Well spring is in full bloom and with it the hay fever to. I have groggy for a few days and all I have done it seems is sleep. But I know it will pass.

The black flies are out in force.  Boy are they fierce. It has been a wonderful day though. We are finally seeing the sun.

I have been doing a little school work in the morning  and then having the girls go outside. We have not had the sun for so long that it is nice when we can go out. Every week I have picked up seed packets at the local store to plant. I got a really pretty purple Zinnia , some African Daisies and another type of flower that I can't spell but it has really pretty pink petals. I want some color in my garden.

I have a question for anyone out there doing Charlotte Mason. Is it ok to teach just what you feel the Lord is leading you to or should you go by a certain thing for high school? We are doing anatomy right now. We have done some chemistry and biology. I just don't want to go with the world's view of things.

Well for all of you homeschoolers out there have a great day.

• May. 6, 2008 - God's Beauty

Isn't God's creation beautiful? We went for a kayak ride yesterday and just enjoyed the wonders of God's creation. Is it any wonder that we are fearfully and wonderfully made?

Along with the creation sometimes comes the not so pleasant things. I have begun my hay fever episode. I am trying some Mullen right now. It is a plant used for colds and such so I thought I would try it for hay fever. The itchy watery eyes and nose are kind of annoying but "this too shall pass".

We have had some great weather lately. The other day was rain but it is so wonderful when the sun comes out again. All the flowers are in bloom and the birds are singing. The tulips I planted last fall are blooming and the Red Wing Blackbirds are visiting the feeders again. I just enjoy sitting in the backyard and watching God's creation at work. What an awesome God we have.

God bless you all in this brand new day.

Prov. 3:5-6
