This evening marks the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. The traditional greeting above is translated loosely a number of ways. "For a good year, may you be written down" is an appropriate rendering of the Hebrew saying. Traditionally, many Jews believe that at the beginning of each new year, God will inscribe one's name in the Book of Life for the next year if they have been good or "righteous" enough during the last one.
Isaiah 64:6 says, "all our righteousness is as filthy rags." Through Isaiah, God said no one can ever be righteous enough to gain His favor. Praise be to God! He solved our dirty laundry (sin) problem for us. God placed our sin on His own Son.
The prophet Isaiah had a lot to say about the coming Lamb of God who would bear the sin of many and intercede with God on their behalf. Read and reflect on Isaiah 53 this holiday season. Thank God today for what He has done for us, what we could not do for ourselves. Best of all, God's solution is permanent - "L'Olam" (and forever)!
Thanks for posting that! I was actually talking with someone about that the other day and was curious as to the references!
