January Seasonal Work

This monthly article will be a helpful reminder of irregular work. Some of the chores are 5 minute chores for one person; some are family projects that might take a couple of hours. Some are done monthly, some seasonally, biannually, or annually. Some are for the safety of you and your family, some save you money in the long term. Some won't affect you and your life due to your home, climate, appliances, etc.

The chores are matched to the area of the home you are already scheduled to work in for the most part, or are planned to correspond with the "day of the week work", according to the yahoo group announcements. If it doesn't suit you then schedule it for a different day but do your best to fit it in sometime.

Remember, when you have a big project scheduled, get a good night's sleep, plan a crockpot meal and a period of rest afterwards. Assign different tasks to your children, they will take ownership and pride in their contribution to the family. Don’t cheat them of this; they are learning to be responsible adults when you include them in this type of work. They won’t be left in a quandary as untrained adults.

Do not play catch-up except with checking the fire alarms, these tasks will come around again. Start right now with today and move forward.

What a mess

Posted in Get Organized

Well, we didn't get to use the dinning room table for Sunday dinner this weekend. I told everyone I didn't want to move the piles of school stuff. It might look like a mess but it is organized kayos. I have been packing up things from last years school, making new notebooks, and oganizing lesson plans. I have decided to put all the blank forms we use into a hanging folder box instead of my large file cabinet. Here are some of the forms I have in the files. {http://heartofwisdom.com/artman/publish/article_70.shtml }

PEGS

Posted in Get Organized

There are a few products that I have purchased over the years to help me organize our life that have really become a staple in our lifestyle. PEGS is one of thoes products. If you need a system that can help you and your kids organize your chore lists this system is great. Right now I only have the younger 5 kids on the board. I usually revamp the board about every 6 months so some chores can be rotated. On the right side I have pick a paid job also. If someone wants some money they just go to the board and pick out a job I have listed.  On the top half I have daily jobs then on the bottom half I have weekly jobs. (they are a little hard to see in this picture)  We do not use the character traits system with it however. Check it out: http://www.familytools.com/

Cean Heart / Clean Home

Posted in Get Organized

Ok, I have to confess, I'm a melancholy that can't stop organizing and always trying to find the best system.  Don't be shocked if your a messie, but some of my happiest times are working on an organizational project.  But of course with a family of 8 as soon as I find a good system, our lives change, skill abilities change, schedules change, etc. etc.  I always enjoy reading web sites about organizing plans, because as you might know melancholies like plans written out so they can check off the box. :)

I have discovered a wonderful blog that I would like to share,

 http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/aCleanHeart/140720/

that not only helps us clean our homes but our hearts.

"This is not about having a perfectly clean home, but about having a heart that is right before the Lord.  This is not about the goal itself, but equally about the journey in getting there.  This is about life and our daily walk with the Lord.  "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."  Psalm 51:10 (KJV)"

So what is up with our deep clean 30 minutes each day

Posted in Get Organized

Well, as you can see by our schedule today's 30 minute deep cleaning area is the living room and the dining room. One of the projects we did today was pull out all the DVDs, check each box to see if the right DVD was in it and find the missing ones. I had another one of the kids polishing silver, and another cleaning out the game cupboard. Nobody seems to mind since they know that it's only one job for 30 minutes, then we get to eat lunch.

Time to organize

Posted in Get Organized

Ok, it's time to reorganize before we get our summer schedule going. I have always found it helpful to redo my schedule each season. Chores are rotated and needs assessed for how we can make our routines run smoother ( as smooth as it can for for a family of 8 )

One web site that I always visit to give me an organizational booster shot is : http://largefamilylogistics.net/index.htm

Here you will find great ways to organize and schedule a large family. Here is a quote from their page to help you see what they are all about.

Large Family Logistics will help you:

· Bring discipline to your life.

· Clean your house and keep it clean.

· Keep up with the laundry. Bit by bit we can do this!

· Manage your kitchen from menu making, to freezing meals, to daily cleaning tasks.

· Manage your home office. How to stay on top of the paper piles.

· Strategic shopping with children in tow.

· How to fit homeschooling in with your home management system. Chores and schoolwork can both get done.

· Gardening, otherwise know as nearly free organic food.

· Preparing for the Lord’s Day.

· How to plan for hospitality and service work.

· Fitting in crafts, sewing, and scrapbooking.

· You get the idea; we’re going to work on it all.

Take these directions and use it as a springboard for ideas that fit your life. We all have unique families and living circumstances.
