The Team-Will bicyclists started their cross-country journey on Friday, the 16th from San Francisco and had a grand rally at the Capital in Sacramento that afternoon. Before arriving at the Capital, the bikers rode through the cemetery to pay their respects to the little one who inspired this ride. William Leo Kiefer lost his battle to cancer on August 1, 2004 and his father Ken is setting out on his bike to help raise funds for childhood cancer research. This is Ken's love song to William and we can hear it all the way over here in San Antonio, TX.
If you would like to follow them on their incredible cross-country adventure, you will want to read their blog at http://teamwill.typepad.com/. Today they had two bikers go down and they have sustained some injuries, but thanks to their medic team, it looks like they will be okay.
By the way, in case you are wondering my connection with this whole thing. Ken is my brother in law - his wife is my dear sister. Tanya and their girls will be joining Ken in Denver tomorrow for the rest of the ride. My father is one of the van drivers, so we get to hear first hand all the exciting little details. But frankly, there is even more juicy info on their blog and the pictures speak a thousand words as usual.
Happy Father's Day to all of you dads out there! Especially to you, Ken! |
