I'm not quite so stressed...

I am still overwhelmed by the enormity of the task ahead, but I don't feel quite so stressed anymore.  The question that keeps coming to my mind is this... How do you eat an elephant?  Do you know the answer?  it is... One bite at a time!

Ha!  I love it and this is what I need to keep in mind as I move forward.  I finished up two of my toughie maps today and I feel so much better.

Well, we've been busily working on our new biography book about the Ancient Times.  Our artist has been drawing away and I am so pleased with how everything is coming together.

Take a look at the preview drawing of Constantine:

Does he not look a little bit like Stallone?  Both Italian, I suppose!  Anyway, this part of putting the book together is so fun!  I'll post some of the other pictures later.

Have a great week!

Terri

Jul. 31, 2006 - Thank you!

I just wanted to say thank you for your posts. As a fellow WTM user, I really appreciate your honesty-especially knowing that others probably will not agree. I love SOTW because of the reasons that others dislike it, I like being able to teach our doctrine to my child without worrying about the slant of the author. I also appreciate the throughness of SOTW, I haven't seen another history program like it. I liked Mystery of History as well but I found that I didn't want to chance not having a book to "advance" to since the author isn't finished with the other volumes. I also want to stick with one history curricululm until we are finished to maintain as much solidarity in our studies as possible.

Did Constantine really look like Sly?

Aug. 1, 2006 - Actually from the Balkans!

From the reference pictures and sculptures I viewed, when I went from feature to feature, some similarities to Stylvester Stallone's face did seem to emerge! But I found out just this morning that he actually grew up in the Balkans! I tried to simply combine the common elements of his facial features in the art references I had available.

Aug. 15, 2006 - Constantine

Dear Terri,
I'm glad to see you are undertaking the task of writing about ancient history. I saw the drawing of an Italian Constantine and wondered if you are aware that his Mother, Helen, was born in Bithynia (now Turkey). In her time the area was a Greek Colony and Helen was Greek. I suggest this in case you would like to give him some of his mother's features. Lisa

Actually, I am not the artist. Her name is Darla Dixon and she has done a fantastic rendering of Constantine from the statues and artwork that has been done of him. This is very similar to what he actually looked like. She did not set out to make him look Italian or like Stallone - that's just what he looked like. Thank you for giving some history on his descent, however. Very interesting!

Aug. 21, 2006 - A great picture, Darla

Posted by JocelynJames
When I wrote about Constantine for the book, I had a younger Constantine in my head for most of it. I think your picture of him is fantastic, Darla.

I noticed that one person said that his mother was Greek. His father was apparently quite fair - he was called Constantius Chlorus. Chlorus means fair or pale one. It is said that Constantine had his father's fairness but his mother's features. I think a lot of the records we have are coins or statues so it's a little hard to tell! Anyway, I like this rendition. He looks very strong and self-assured.
