Sarah Books

Are you tired of books of  fluff which young people read and get nothing out of?  Are you tired of books for young people being filled with vampires, sorcerers, and the like?   Sarah Books prove that authors who can tell an interesting story without worldly garbage still exist.   Jim Baumgardner is a man that lives history.  Not only does he volunteer at the Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita, Kansas playing the town barber, but he also writes about the history he is passionate about.   His writing is expressive and descriptive.  Picturing yourself right in the midst of the story is easy.  He is also a grandpa who enjoys telling stories to his grandchildren.  My communication with him has proven him to be a fun-loving, kind, and fascinating man.  He is a Christian writer, but the book does not push religion, just shows the faith that Sarah has.  Click here to read more about Mr. Baumgardner.

Sarah's Wish takes place during the time of the Underground Railroad.  Sarah is the young heroine of the story (with two sequels already published  and another in the works).  The very first chapter totally changes the life of Sarah and forces her to grow up.  She takes on her mother's job of helping slaves to freedom in a mature way, but also still has the feelings of a young girl.   The procrastinator is depicted perfectly-evil, evil, evil.  Granny's dialect makes her "real" to the reader.  To read excerpts of all three of the Sarah Books, go here.  Historical fiction/nonfiction is a better way to learn history than a boring textbook!

My 13 year old daughter received the first two Sarah Books last year for Christmas.  Mr. Baumgardner autographed them to her which made them even more special.  She loved the books and is anxious to get Sarah's Escape.  I also am curious as to what happens next!   "Violet" likes historical books, especially Civil War era stories.   Even a boy would enjoy this book because of the adventure.   Sign up for his newsletter which gives more historical information of interest to young people.  A question is given for the reader to write Mr. Baumgardner with the answers.  He also has contests which kids enjoy.

He has given me permission to give away my extra copy of Sarah's Wish.  To be in the contest for this book, you must leave a comment and name one Negro Spiritual that slaves sang during this era.  I must have at least 5 entries to draw out a winner.  The contest will end on September 30.  I will ship this out by media mail.

These books vary in page length and are priced differently.  Sarah's Wish is on special for $9.99,   Sarah's Promise is $13.50, and Sarah's Escape is $17.50.  Audio books are also available for the first two books for $16.99 or $18.99.  Order here.    AUTOGRAPHING IS INCLUDED.
