Homeschool Student Book Club Plans
I've shared several times about our homeschool book club. It is my older children's favorite homeschool activity. My son and daughter kept asking me when we are starting book club. Finally this week we got together at the park, and while the kids played, the mothers planned out our monthly book club projects. Here is our list.
Occupation – Students read either a non-fiction book about a specific occupation, or he may choose a biography about a famous person who worked in that field.
Little House theme – Each family is assigned a single Little House book. The presentation will consist of food, crafts, a skit, etc.
Fairy tales or Folk Tales – The students each pick a story and can retell it as the traditional story, rewrite it as a “mixed-up” fairy tale, make a story book, etc.
Animal books - Students present a book report about a fiction book with an animal as the main character. An additional option is to also present facts, drawings, photos, etc. about the animal.
Poetry – The students will each choose one poem to memorize and recite. Each student will also write and illustrate a poem.
Missionary Biography – Each student reads a biography of a missionary. The student can dress up and present as their character (or not). Another additional presentation option is to present information about the area where the missionary served.
Paper bag – Mystery book - Each student will read a mystery book. The presentation will consist of a decorated paper bag which is filled with objects that are important to the story. Details for the paper bag project are found eduref.org.
How-to books – Students read a book on how-to do something and present what he has learned.
I am very excited about this year! I think that our group came up with some super ideas for presentations.
