The slaves were wanted in the New World to help start colonies and do farm work.
The black people with them art, music, folk tales, and dance.
The Portuguese attacked African cities and destroyed them.
Slaves were treated badly on the ships that brought them to America.
In the 1400's Africa was highly civilized.
The first prisoners of the Portuguese were sold in Portugal.
On the trip to America, many slaves died.
When you get revenge, you get even with someone who has hurt you.
A large farm that has many workers is called a plantation.
