Underground Railroad Field Trip

DH and RJ went on an exciting field trip.  They went to Hale Farms and took part in an interactive field trip about the Underground RailRoad.  They portrayed slaves and had to be 'sold' and different members of the Hale Farm Staff were slave owners, auction personnel, Underground RR houses/people who helped them escape, those homeowners that turned them in.  They had a blast escaping, getting caught, staying hidden, etc.

We will definately do it again if it is offered in the future and B will be able to participate this time.  Due to age, we didn't let her go because they suggested 12 and up for it.  DH thought it was well planned out and a great thing to experience.  We may try some other events they have at Hale Farms too.

Teen Bible Quiz

Our final TBQ meet and we are all sick!  Such a bummer!  One of the other parents coached for me and the rest of the team did really well.  We were disappointed to miss it but I am sure that everyone else on our team as well as the rest of the state appreciated us not going and making all of them sick! HA!

We will now take a short break and start up again in the summer/fall.  Our new year will be over Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians and Philemon.  It looks like we might have several teams this coming fall!!

Fine Arts State Finals

Our Fine Arts State Finals are over.  RJ and the teams he was on did well but did not advance to nationals, which is OK!  He learned some new things and will be continuing to do drama in the future.  He is already looking forward to next year and plans on doing the drama categories again as well as Praise & Worship band.

We did have some teens advance to Nationals and that will be in Indy the first week in August.  We may try to go over for at least part of it since it isn't too far from here.

Snow, Snow and More Snow!!

Snow, Snow and more snow!  That is what we have!  We got hit with a winter storm yesterday and today that the news station is calling "The Blizzard of '07".  We received 10-12 inches of snow and have drifts up to 20 inches in our yard!  Boy the kids loved playing in it and got their school done quickly so they could go out and play in it!

Here the kids are playing outside in the snow yesterday!  We had another 6 inches or more of snow after this over night and this morning!

We had to shovel the drive out so Daddy could get to work today ~ Thankfully the neighbor saw us shoveling and brought his tractor over and plowed it for us!  Part of school tomorrow will be writing thank you notes to him for doing that for us!
I am sure tomorrow will be full of doing school then heading outside again!

Stories of the World

At the beginning of this month we began using "Stories of the World" books for our history.  We are having a good time using it.  We have learned so far about Nomads, Lower Egypt and Upper Egypt and their kings.  It is a fun way to study history!  We will be making a 'model' of the Nile River this week!

Fine Arts Night

RJ is participating in Fine Arts this year.  They have been practicing since October and have worked hard.  RJ is in a drama (skit), a small human video and a large human video.  We had Fine Arts night at church Sunday for all the students to do their stuff.  This is the largest group we have taken with about 16 students and over 10 entried in the different categories.  Each year they do all their entries at church before we go to the district event.  This is RJ's first year doing it.  What a great job he is doing!  We are proud of him and all the teens in the church that are using their talents God has given them!

JBQ Meet - Last season meet!

Today was the last season meet of the year for the girls.  It was a bitter-sweet day for Brandi as this will be her last meet in JBQ since she will be moving up to TBQ next year!  Brandi and Alisha did well but it is tough competition in the "A" League this year, especially when you only have two people on the team.  Rachel & her team came in 1st in the league for the year! What an exciting time for them since all five members are in their first JBQ year!  They all did pee-wee quiz and moved up to JBQ this season.   They will go to the state meet next month!

Royal Ranger Winter Camp! BRRRR!

The coldest weekend of the winter and RJ has winter camp out!  BRRRRR!  As always there was tons of fun, tons of food and tons of cold!  The commanders brought hay bales for everyone to sleep on to keep the cold from getting under then and keep them off the ground.  Of course sleeping in a tent with a wood burner which keeps the temps around 65-70 isn't like sleeping in below zero weather anyway!  The services were great, the 4-wheeler/sledding was great and he had lots of fun!
