It's been a LONG time since I posted. We went away for the Memorial Day weekend, but other than that I really don't have an excuse. Not much to say - at least not that is school-related. LOL
I do have a date for our end-of-year evaluation, June 16th. I am going to meet the evaluator at a halfway location, since our home is a very long way for her to drive. So that means I will have to pull together a portfolio of sorts for each of the boys. And I am dealing with the inevitable anxiety that what we've done this year wasn't "enough" I feel especially inadequate when it comes to Language Arts. We DID a Language Arts curriculum this year (Alpha Omega LifePacs), but didn't start until partway through the school year, so the boys are not even close to being finished the entire course! Especially Spencer - and he is doing the LifePac a grade level below his age, because he really struggles with spelling, reading comprehension, handwriting, and just expressing himself verbally. I definitely think I was wise to start him with the Grade 5 LifePac instead of Grade 6, but I sure wish that he'd progressed through it much quicker! Yes, I could have made him work harder/longer/more often on it, so I guess that part is my fault. But it is just a fact of life for us that he struggles in that subject, so I have to accept that and not feel that it's ALL a reflection on me and my ability (or lack thereof) to teach. I could also wish that Harrison had actually FINISHED his Math for the year, but he's really close. He'll be finished in a couple weeks, so I'm not going to sweat that.
So, yes, we will be doing summer school. We would be in any case, but it will be pretty intensive for Spencer. Harrison works faster (not nearly always better though! LOL) and doesn't have as much ground to make up this summer, so I hope that it won't come out looking like Spencer is being "punished" in comparison. Summer school will be finishing up the LifePacs for Language Arts, Math, and the library's Summer Reading Program. I think I may see about teaching them both to type (properly!) during the summer. That would aid Spencer in writing out notes!
Since today is Frank Lloyd Wright's birthday, I thought I'd post a couple pictures from our field trip to Taliesin in Wisconsin. We made this trip as a stopover on our vacation in September/October 2005.
This is the main building (you can see the tops of Harrison's Spencer's heads)

DH and the kids listening very intently to the tour guide (LOL):

And the obligatory "Back Seat Boys" album art photo:

That one includes only two of the "Back Seat Boys" but features special guest artist "Kenna-D"
It was an awesome field trip - I highly recommend it if you are in the Madison, WI area. In fact we were kind of hoping one of the boys would be interested in attending their school of architecture there. It's quite prestigious, and students live on the site, and the tuition is remarkably affordable. Like WAY less than universities.
Sadly my music disappeared when I dhanged the template, so I will have to do that all over again. No time this morning though. |

I'm thinking that evaluators are the less than desirable part of HS'ing. I'm not looking forward to that day.
