Some more pictures I was going to post earlier... Tuesday, July 11th, I took the kids to Washington DC (yes I drove, and found a parking spot all by myself!) for the last day of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. It was important to ME to go, because Alberta - my home province - was featured, and one of the performers was someone I went to high school with. It's just not very common for people from my high school in Calgary, Alberta to show up in Washington DC! So we made a school trip out of it, and here are the pictures to prove it.
Theatresports performance... my school mate Shawn Kinley is on the right.

The kids pose in front of a 100-ton oilsands truck, which the sign told us was actually one of the smaller trucks used:

A chuckwagon from the races at the Calgary Stampede:

Never heard of chuckwagon racing? I find it very exciting, and it's something that I miss! Learn more here.
The kids check out the different grains grown in Alberta:

We learned a little about the RCMP, and Kennady was especially interested to see that RCMP horses get to wear a police badge!

(Interesting side note: at the time Kennady was looking at this fake horse, a DC mounted policeman was just to the left of the white chair speaking with one of the RCMP officers. And I'm not even sure Kennady noticed the REAL horse only a couple of feet away. LOL)
No display from Alberta would be complete without featuring hockey in some way:

The kids all tried their hand at a wrist shot or two. Harrison has already had plenty of practice:

Here's Kennady:

Spencer's turn:

...and Landon:

A teepee:

Inside: Doesn't it look comfy?

My attempt at posing the kids in front of the castle. I wasn't quick enough on the trigger.
