What we have been up to & planning

I cannot believe how fast this summer has gone. It feels like we just completed our last school year. My kids are ready, they are pushing me for a change. My girlfriend tells me I have warped them.

      A little housekeeping:

1. I am still working on MOH. I pretty much have it all together. I just need to get together with my good friend Gina and find out how to post it all.

2. Why I didn't blog this summer:

   a. camping every weekend at our place on a lake-swimming, tubing, skiing, fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, eating, biking, tennis, volleyball, water balloon launching, horseback riding, hog roasts, etc.

   b. volleyball camp and 3 practices a week

   c. planted a large garden with a friend and have done quite a bit of canning

   d. guests off and on

   e. Olympics- we were slightly obsessed with volleyball, swimming and gymnastics

   f. 3 very active children

So, you can see that we were pretty busy this summer. Now we are back to school and blogging. I have several catering jobs already lined up for this fall. One is a friends daughter who is getting married in West Virginia. That will be fun as I will travel and stay with friends.

I have been asked several times to share what our plans are for this fall. I am a planner and I usually plan too much, but it's like food, I'd rather have too much with leftovers than not enough and be hungry. If you know me then you know how true this is.

      All 3 kids:

  • Weekly Piano Lesson
  • Completing TLP Unit on The Twenty-one Balloons
  • Government Club with our MOH Co-op- including a lapbooking workshop I taught, a trip to the state capitol, a mock election, student government, election night party, etc.
  • Election Unit Study- Lapbook
  • Impressionism Art Study that I wrote at the end of last year.
  • History of the Orchestra Music Study- Periods of Classical Music ( 2 year study)- Lapbook
  • Weekly Nature Study
  • Monthly Geography Club- Around the World Event
  • Monthly play or concert- Tom Sawyer at Round Barn, Bethel College Christmas Concert, Possible Charlotte's Web at Andrews University, Possibe Fall Concert at Local High School
  • Museum experience- plan on trip to Chicago's Art Institute, Notre Dame's Snite Museum of Art
  • Cedar Point Trip during Homeschool Week

So that will be our fall. We have to close everything at the lake and keep up with chores. I'm hoping to get back to my couponing and get a freezer cooking session in with some friends. I seem to recall something about cutting back last year...must have been someone else.

How are you all doing with your planning? I know it can be a struggle. I'd love to hear from you!

Romeo and Juliet

Today we went to see Romeo and Juliet at Bethel College. I was excited for my 9 and 12 year olds to get to see a Shakespeare play at very little cost. I was praying that my 7 year old would just be able to sit still that long.

I admit my expectations were low. After each act I was breathing a sigh of relief. Not only did he sit still, but he seemed to be enjoying it. I could tell he loved the sword fights and was trying to follow along. He quietly asked me a few questions that showed me he was trying to understand.

When we got home, I asked him what he thought of the play. He said, " I liked the sword fighting, but there was a lot of yelling and smooching." The girls laughed and I thought, "Well at least he sat still." Then he said, "Mom if the parents hadn't hated each other then their "childrens" wouldn't have died. I think that is why hate is wrong and God wants us to forgive people. They made a lot of people sad and probably God too."

I guess he taught me a lesson! Aren't kids amazing?
