Finally!

It wasn't much, but we'll take it! (though these two girls thought it put a real crimp in their style!)

We are supposed to get a little more in the next day or so. I hope so. This year has been a real bummer as far as snow is concerned. It has only snowed twice and both time just a dusting and gone by noon.

What is it about waking up to newly fallen snow that never fails to bring a smile to your face? Is it the purity of the whiteness, or the hushed noise level? Is it just that it happens so seldom here and thus is such a rare surprise? I don't know, but it sure seems to affect everyone in my family this way. Do folks in snowier areas feel this way, too? Does the dreamy feeling last as long as the snow lasts? If so, then I'm headed for Alaska.

Theresa,
It looks beautiful! Here in Las Vegas I am wearing flip flops already for goodness sake. :( We have been in the 60-70's and haven't seen snow at all this year. We got spoiled by the last two years getting it at least once during each winter. I miss the seasons. Enjoy for me too please and I would LOVE to stow away with you when you go to Alaska lol

Love your photo.....is it on your property?
I have enjoyed reading through your blog entries too.

I love a snowy winter morning, but not the howling prairie winds with subzero windchills here in Illinois this week. But looking out my window is nice....as long as I can stay where it is warm!

Nature lover from my window sill on a cold winter morning,
Maureen

Yes, the picture is our lower pasture, looking up toward the barn. We did, get some more snow after this. Ended up with about 2-3 inches. Not great, but it'll do.
Barb-there is some GREAT birding in Alaska! I don't remember the names of all the birds we saw, but the best were the puffins (two kinds). They really do look comical. You can tell when they've eaten alot because when the boat approaches, they can't fly away-too heavy! So they just flap like crazy and scoot across the top of the water!
