Feeling Better

Well thank you to those who made me feel worthy of my PB&J sandwhiches and excessive TV watching that was allowed yesterday here in our home. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, however don't we feel like that at times, don't we? Like the only ones....going through all these things alone.  I always find it encouraging to know and hear other women voice their same trials and frustrations. Especially when it comes to school:)  Our day was definately an improvement from yesterday. And I am feeling a lot better. Still kind of tired, but much better. Although my 2 daughters were kind of laying around all day not eating much....which kind of gave me yet another break. I don't enjoy them being sick but it definately lightens my load for the day....and some Gatorade and toast usually do the trick!

I am so glad Spring has finally arrived. Praise the Lord! Still a bit chilly but doable. I just ordered Apologia Botany and thought Spring and Summer would be a great time to start....

Do any of you use Spelling Power or Natural Speller? Any pros or cons to either? We use Bob Jones spelling and my son really likes it but I'm not sure if it is enough. I guess I shouldn't change stuff if he likes it, right? I'm temtpted but I guess it'd be better to just fill in what I think he's missing.  I was thinking of trying to get one or the other to start for my daughters in the next year or so, any suggestions? Any thoughts on LLATL either....I was thinking of starting that with my, going to be 2nd grader, next year? The RED book.

I can't believe I'm already getting stuff together for next year....it seems so early and like it never ends. But I am just so excited about all our new material. I feel as though this is  parenting 101 all over again....with the first one you just kind of use what everybody else does or what you think is good or what has been handed down to you....and now I feel like I'm just getting into the swing of things with some better material that I just never heard of or found out about. I didn't "research" a whole lot before starting(which was pretty stupid, of course)....and now still with one entering 5th grade next year I still am changing what we use, but in a good way....I just wish I would've found out earlier. Just like parenting your first child ...all the mistakes you make ....and then.... years later, after 2 or 3 more kids, you realize how hard you were on them and feel bad about it....kind of like that.

So I want to get off to a better start with the next group coming along!

Well its that time of day....dinner. Shouldn't be too bad with only 3 of us eating, and some leftover Chinese in the fridge!

I'm so glad you're feeling better! Sorry about the kiddos though. Hopefully you are all well tomorrow.

I'm going to use the Apologia Flying Creatures book next year with Allen. I'd love to do the Botany, but nobody wants to do science in the summer. Well, Jordan is schooling through the summer.

I hope it isn't too early to order for next year. I already did! And it should all be arriving next week :) I need to clean out the school room, again, so that I can put it all away.

I've used Spelling Power and now use Natural Speller. I prefer Natural Speller, although I probably don't use it as intended. We use a list a week and I have them do activities such as put words in abc order, look up definitions in the dictionary, write a sentence, stuff like that. I quiz them on Friday. I also add words that they misspell when writing. I didn't like Spelling Power in that my kids would rather study words and test, then test and work on missed words. It just didn't work well for my family, although I still hang onto it. So weird.

We're finishing our 9th year and I finally feel like I found stuff we like :) It only took 8 years to get there LOL.

OK, now I'm rambling on your blog :) I'll stop now. Have a blessed evening.

I have Spelling Power and have used it for four years, but do not follow their methods precisely. It looks a little overwhelming, but I just adapted it to work for us. It has every spelling list you will ever need, which is a plus.
