Laura (and Calvin and Hobbes): China to Scotland

Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - Not quite Wordless Wednesday: Ladies at the park, with bubbles, China

I took this photo a few days before I left China.  Judging from their clothes, the old ladies were from the countryside, visiting relatives in the big city.  One still sees ladies with bound feet fairly often: communications were poor at the time of the revolution, so it took a long time for news of the ban on the practice to spread through the countryside.

It is wonderful to see older people unselfconciously enjoy life and keep their playfulness. Great socks too. I would so love to see more Chinese style socks!

I do enjoy your blog very much, so I gave you an award to prove it :-) Thanks for sharing your interesting life with someone who has hardly ever left her home state.
