Bountiful Blessings!

Day Three

Workbook time this morning was again a chaotic scene.  Daniel started out playing on his own, but managed to make his way to our area and was not satisfied long with a couple of crayons and paper.  He started demanding my attention.  Still brainstorming.  I know I should try to find something he can do to occupy his time (it's only like 20 minutes!), but I'm just not sure "what" that could be right now!
Caleb did great coloring today and I had him go around the house and collect 3 objects in specific colors.  Today he said his favorite color was Black.  So he found 3 black objects to put in a basket and bring to me.  Then he wanted to do more colors.  We went through most of the colors of the rainbow doing this, and Caleb did a fine job finding objects of the specified color!  Joshua's workbook work went well (Telling Time).
This afternoon, I started to see the effects of Joshua getting to bed a little late last night.  He started moping after our phonics work.  He frowned when I asked him questions or tried to start a discussion.  I was getting a little unenergetic-feeling myself, so I called a 15-minute rest period.  Joshua fussed about this.  I explained to him the situation and told him to lay on the couch for a while.  He actually shed tears because he wanted to play his computer games.  I ended up using that as a motivator by explaining that there is a time for work, a time for play, and a time to learn.  And I explained that playing computer must come after learning on this day.  I was looking over the material when he walked into the kitchen after about 5 minutes.  He asked me very politely, "mommy, may I come back to my lessons now."  And he did and he "cheered" up and we made it through.
Joshua is not much into coloring.  We worked on coloring his hen.  It turned out not too bad.  I'm not an artist and don't know a lot of techniques, but we managed to make the hen look pretty decent.  Check back tomorrow for the finished product!
Well, we made it through our first "attitude" of the new school year.  It wasn't too terrible.  I'll be praying and asking God to give me the wisdom to know how to handle these situations as they come along!

I'm a Christian, homeschooling mommy of 4 blessings--3 awesome boys and 1 precious girl. One major goal in my life is to raise these children, whom God has entrusted to me, to first love and serve Him and second to become life-long learners. Only by God's grace am I given this awesome and very rewarding experience! It's my joy and pleasure to share some of my journey in this blog.
