Well, I'm just not too
good at getting on here EVERY day. I don't really think I should
try because some days are just "basic." But I'll try to sum
things up after a day or two or at the end of the week. Wednesday
and Thursday were, just like was mentioned, pretty basic. We
covered worksheets on Telling Time (which we completed) and
Phonics. Monday we'll move into Math-U-See Beta. Joshua
really enjoys that material, so I am looking forward to it. (Note to
Teacher--Make a Decimal Street poster by Monday!!!)
All week we discussed Vertebrates and
Invertebrates. We played animal charades and I tried to have
Caleb and Joshua focus on playing out all different kinds of
animals--not just the "normal" ones. They did real well with it
even doing some invertebrate animals (worm and fly and
jellyfish). We ended with a discussion today about what makes man
different from other animals. We discussed how God made us
different and we read from the creation story in Genesis. Joshua
is also continuing with his memorization of the scripture from Romans
1:20, and doing very well.
Now I'd like to talk
a little in-depth about the Draw, Write, Now curriculum that I selected
as our writing curriculum. After two weeks I have discovered that
this is really not a writing curriculum, but more an art
curriculum. And that is ok, but Joshua will need to do more
writing in another area. Draw, Write, Now is good, however,
because I was not covering any art at all. So this gives us a
great opportunity to try to be creative with drawing. I have even
learned a few things. But because the only writing that occurs is
on Friday, we're not getting a whole lot of practice and Joshua needs
lots of practice. SO, I went ahead and ordered the Handwriting
Without Tears workbook for grade one. In it we are going to be
doing a lot of copy work and practicing. Especially on the lower
case letters. But we will continue to do the DWN material.
It has been fun and Joshua does get to do a little creative writing as
well!
