Exodus 25:1-2
The L-rd said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from each man whose heart prompts him to give."
Exodus 36:6-7
Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: "No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary." And so the people were restrained from bringing more, because what they already had was more than enough to do all the work.
Aren't these scriptures wonderful? Moses asked for an offering, and the people gave so much that he had to tell them, "Enough! We have enough!" What would the world be like today if everyone gave what he or she is supposed to (meaning, what the L-rd put on their hearts, as in Exodus 25, verses 1 and 2)? Wouldn't the churches be full to overflowing? Wouldn't they be able to do more outreach than they do now? Wouldn't more people hear the gospel? Wouldn't more people believe?

Maybe we should all develop the heart of James Cash Penney. He went broke trying to keep his many charities that supported adoption agencies, homeless shelters, youth clubs, missionary projects, etc. afloat during the depression. So, in the 1930s and 1940s, he gave his time instead of his money. He eventually regained his fortune and JC Penney started funding his charities again.
The reason we don't give more is because we are after the same things non Christians are. We still think that this life has something of value to offer us.
Oh, your grandson is adorable. He is so alert in his first moments of life. Don't you wish we could know what he was thinking.
And, I had to call down my daughter to see your cat Poopie. I have a cat that my daughter considers "plump." He is only about half the size of yours! |
