Nov. 19, 2006 - Chanukah Shop

This year I am working in the Chanukah Shop/Judaica Shop (two different rooms) at synagogue. What a blessing! So far I have only worked on Shabbat after services, but I will soon have the opportunity to do much more. It is so much fun and festive--beautiful blue and gold and silver everywhere. What is most fun is the joy on everyone's faces as they choose gifts for people they love. Both days have been busy. I have not had the opportunity to do much "helping" people. I spend most of my time writing up sales slips and bagging items. Keeping busy is good--then I don't covet the beautiful things for sale--things I cannot afford!
Working in the shop is just a way to serve in the congregation. A fun way, I must admit! Another way that I serve is to go to Tuesday night prayer meeting, and pray for the needs of the people. Both Jesse and I go to prayer meeting. Jesse also enjoys work day. There is one tomorrow, and I don't have a way to get him there, so he is walking the three miles to synagogue so he can fellowship and work. Then he will probably walk home. Hannah wants to start going to work day, too, but she is not a walking enthusiast. She is waiting until I have Sunday transportation!
