Nov. 20, 2006 - Clothing the Grass of the Field
Picture was taken at Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. Luke 12:27-28 "Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how G-d clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!" The L-rd has been answering one prayer after the other lately, and some have been (to my family and I) very big deals. I chose this verse, though, because He has answered prayers and provided my Hannah with some skirts and sweaters to wear to services. Baruch HaShem (Praise The Name)! She is so happy!

Nov. 21, 2006 - Thanks |

Thanks for the Thanksgiving blessing, however, we are Canadian and don't do Thanksgiving. Well, Canada does Thanksgiving in October, but because it coincided with Sukkot this year, we didn't do it, and last year it was right after Sukkot, and we didn't do it either.
BUT, May your family be joined in joy this Thanksgiving, may your table be full of all your children and grandchildren - even those who live far away. May Adonai provide you with bountiful food to fill all the bellies.
I think it's great you're working in your Judaica store - however, I wondered about you working on the Sabbath after service. Is no one offended by this? or is it after the sun goes down?
MY RESPONSE TO WORKING IN THE JUDAICA SHOP ON THE SABBATH, and Something about Thanksgiving:
There are a few things that I can tell you about why I do this. First, it is a ministry. The Rabbi works on the Sabbath, the people who serve and clean up in the Oneg room work on the Sabbath, and I do. All of us do it as ministry.
Our Judaica shop focuses on learning and on getting things needed for worship, such as kippas, prayer shawls, Bibles, books, much more. This is the only time many people can come to the shop. It is not a for profit business. It is for ministry only.
One of the ministries we provide is talking to the Jewish people who come (often secretly) about the L-rd. We have had Jewish people accept Yeshua as L-rd! Awesome!
No one is offended in our synagogue or in any others that we know of. We understand the need to minister to others. If this were a business, for profit, it would be an entirely different matter! Nothing is more important than being ready to talk to someone about our L-rd.
About Thanksgiving: I thought you might find this interesting. Canada has the date of Thanksgiving about right, America does not. Originally it was celebrated earlier in the season. The Pilgrims would not have had a secular holiday, everything was done in light of their understanding of the Word. My rabbi believes that originally Thanksgiving was a form of celebrating Sukkot! One night at Bible study we did an in depth study of Sukkot, and it was fascinating--things that I had never heard. I will look up the study, and see what I can decipher in my notes.
love to you,
laurie
