Mar. 7, 2008 - A call to action...

As you may have already heard, a state appellate court in California has effectively banned homeschooling in California by declaring that parents must hold a teaching certificate in order to homeschool their children.  This decision was handed down by the 2nd Appellate Court (Los Angeles) on February 28.  To find our more details, please go the www.hslda.org where there is also a petition to sigh. Below is an informational alert from HSLDA:

Friends, homeschooling seems to have come under attack in the last few weeks.  In New York, we are fighting against the termination for services for special needs children. In California, they now are fighting for the basic right to homeschool.

Let us continue to be vigilant in our actions and diligent in our prayer, especially for California. Remember, we serve a sovereign God, and the heart of the king is in His hands (Prov 21:1)

You are encouraged to forward this email to all interested parties.  Also, be ready for action and be on the watch for more alerts, as they are likely to increase in frequency.  It seems we have been called to battle.

Jul. 23, 2007 - Looking for some great Art Projects...

We LOVE the products from Enrichment4You!   My daughter is using them as her art curriculum this year.  Her first project was The Ancient Egyptian Shaduf from this CD.  She will also be making some of the other projects off this CD.  These projects were designed for Mystery of History but we have also found they work beautifully with Tapestry of Grace.

Here is a picture of the almost completed project....

Jul. 16, 2007 - New Contest at HomeschoolEStore!

The Homeschool What Store???

We hear that a lot, and we're pretty sure you do too.  You've spent a lot of time and effort helping to spread the word about HomeschoolEstore these last couple of years and we now you've probably had to spell and respell our name more than a few times for confused friends and family.  That's why we think it's time for a change.  We need a new name for our store and we'd love your help.  Be the person to suggest the new and improved name we choose for our store and you could win your choice of $200 cash or $300 store credit.  All entries must be e-mailed to us by September 3rd, 2007.  The winner will be announced on October 1st, 2007.  Not only will we be renaming the store, but we'll be revamping our entire site with all sorts of new features like wish lists and better ways to preview titles.  Stay tuned for more information.

CONTEST DETAILS:

One Grand Prize winner will be selected. 2nd-10th place winners will also be selected and receive a $20 credit in their account. The grand prize winner will be featured on our homepage and receive their choice of $200 cash or $300 store credit.

Submissions must adhere to contest rules (below) and be e-mailed by 5:00p.m, CST, September 1, 2007. All Winners will be notified via e-mail on October 1st, 2007.

PLEASE MAKE SUBMISSIONS THROUGH OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE E-MAIL ADDRESS FOUND ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF OUR HOMEPAGE, TOWARD THE BOTTOM. YOUR SUBJECT LINE SHOULD READ: “Renaming Contest.”

YOU MUST BE A HOMESCHOOLESTORE MEMBER IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE. MEMBERSHIP IS ENTIRELY FREE AND DOES NOT REQUIRE ENTERING ANY BANKING OR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. SIGN UP USING THE PROMPTS ON OUR HOMEPAGE AT www.homeschoolestore.com.

CONTEST RULES:

1. Name suggestions must have the .com version of their name available as web addresses (URLs). For example, yourname.com must be available. Web address availability should be checked before submitting names.  You can use this page http://www.homeschoolestore.com/catalog/hses_check_domain.php to see if your name is available as a web address. If a name becomes unavailable after your submission has been made it will become ineligible for selection.  You will find that most words and combination of words have already been reserved as web addresses so this makes the contest a challenge!

2. Names that are already in-use by other companies will not be considered.  It is not necessary however to commit a great deal of research to each of your name suggestions in an attempt to determine whether or not they are already in use by another company; this will be done by homeschoolestore employees as part of our selection process.

3. HomeschoolEstore.com publishers and affiliates are invited to participate in this contest.

4. Adults and children are welcome to participate. There is no age restriction. Prizes for child entries will be awarded to legal guardians on behalf of children.

5. All entries must be original ideas conceived of by the entrant. We encourage entrants NOT to use this contest as a brainstorming activity, but to do their brainstorming first, and then select their best ideas for submission.

6. There is no limit to the number of name suggestions per entrant. We'd appreciate your putting all of your name suggestions in one e-mail.

7. Please include with your submissions an up to 75-word biography, including name, age (if you choose,) information about your homeschooling experience, and information about your experience with HomeschoolEstore.com.

8. An e-mail contact must be included with all submissions.

9. All submissions become our property and submitting the idea for the name is considered work-for-hire. The prize awarded shall be the full compensation for the winner whose name is selected.

Name suggestions will be judged by us based on the following criteria:
1. Is the name memorable?
2. Is it easy to misspell?
3. Is it unique? Combinations of simple words like
www.greathomeschooldownloads.com are unlikely to be winners. Sometimes
combining words in interesting ways can make good names like National
Biscuit Company became Nabisco.
4. Names that convey homeschooling, education and/or electronic downloads
will have preference.
5. Nonsensical names will be considered. These are names like Google, Skype,
and Joost.

May. 29, 2007 - Looking for a Great Way to Organize Chores for Your Kids?

We school year round in my house; however, we do have somewhat of a lighter schedule in the summer.  I always make a summer schedule which includes a few more chores for the kids.   In the past I have used a weekly rotating schedule but I have always longed for something that offered more flexibility.

This is the perfect solution!!!

Kid Chore Organizer

Want a quick and simple way to organize your child’s chores each day? You need the Kid Chore Organizer cards from Homeschool With Index Cards. Part of most homeschoolers’ days include instilling the importance of doing chores in a timely manner. These cards are a great hands-on way to help your kids work on their chores each day!

Chores for each room of the house, as well as a section for outdoor chores!

You can purchase this from http://www.homeschoolestore.com/catalog/index.php

You can also visit Molly's website http://homeschoolwithindexcards.com/index.html

She has some great articles and other freebies!

May. 24, 2007 - A recipe contest from a friend a fellow homeschoolblogger

I normally post only HomeschoolEStore related stuff here but my good friend Heidi has a really fun contest on her blog that I just had to share.  Here is her blog address www.homeschoolblogger.com/ReviewsbyHeidi/

Heidi writes reviews for many homeschool publishers including many of ours at HomeschoolEStore.  Her reviews are excellent and very well done.

The current contest on Heidi's site is a recipe contest.  I love recipes and I have quite a collection of cookbooks.  Heidi has asked those participating in her contest to post their most requested recipe.  Here are 2 of mine....

Dirt Pudding
1 (1-lb) pkg Oreo cookies
1 (8-oz) pkg cream cheese
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup powdered sugar
1 (12-oz) container Cool Whip
2 (3-oz) pkgs Instant French Vanilla pudding
3 1/2 cups milk
Gummy worms for decoration

Crush cookies into fine crumbs and set aside.  Mix softened cream cheese, softened margarine and powdered sugar.  In a seperate bowl mix the pudding and milk.  Combine the 2 mixtures together in a large bowl.  Fold in Cool Whip.  In a large bowl or 13"X9" pan layer cookies and pudding mixture starting and stopping with the cookie crumbs.  Decorate with gummy worms.  Refrigerate until serving.  This is also very cute if put in a clay pot but the pot needs to be glazed on the inside.  I have also made it up in individual glazed clay pots.

Cool Cucumber Pasta

12 oz tube pasta (any kind is fine)
1 Tablespoon vegtable oil
3 medium cucumbers
1 medium onion
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
3/4 cup vinegar
1 Tablespoon yellow mustard
1 Tablespoon dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Cook pasta according to package directions.  Drain and rinse in cold water.  Place in a large bowl and stir in oil.  Thinly slice cucumbers and onions.  Add to pasta.  Combine the rest of the ingrediants in a bowl and mix well.  Pour over pasta mixture.  Cover and chill 3-4 hours stirring occasionally.  Serve with a slotted spoon.

To participate in this contest go to www.homeschoolblogger.com/ReviewsbyHeidi/332225/
