1 Kings 1-5

David anoints his son Solomon King. (whose mother is Bathsheba the woman David sinned with, married and was forgiven)
David was a wise fair king and I believe he prayed for his son Solomon years before his reign. As Godly parents should pray for their children.
David gave very specific orders to Solomon on his death bed that Solomon carried out swiftly.

In his first four years as King ; Solomon wasted no time in carrying out the commands of his father and God.
When approached by God Solomon humbly admitted that he was young and did not know how to fairly rule the gigantic kingdom he had inherited. But he did not get overwhelmed or act haughty to hide his shortcomings. Instead he asked God for Wisdom and discernment in judging fairly. Here was a great King with a  huge kingdom, he could have asked to the greatest nation; the "biggest name;. But he understood his blessing and asked God for help to rule wisely.

We all have our own "kingdoms". And I am sure that we could all want more from our " little kingdoms"

I want to be more humble and thankful about the blessings I already have. Like Solomon I want to have more wisdom and discernment to manage the things that I already have. And to also have the wise, loving discernment to love, discipline, and teach my children.
I want to be content with everything God Provides for us. And to reach out to others with my blessings.
I also need wisdom in my relations with others; strangers, friends, family,....
To allow my actions to be wise and gentle. (Oh thats a hard one for me since I have such a short fuse)

Monday may 19 Dev

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord Always! I will say it again REJOICE! Let your Gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in EVERYTHING, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart  and your mind in Christ Jesus.

Rejoice in all circumstances. God is always in control even when you feel lost of overlooked God is there going ahead of you.  Life can not be a bowl of cherries how can you have faith if everything is perfect.

No matter the circumstances show a gentle quiet nature. Thats how you let Gods light shine by your actions.

Anxiety keeps your from praying faithfully. cast all your cares and burdens to God. And allow Gods Peace to fill you and to guard your heart and mind.

Much easier said than done. But we can pray for help.

Tues May 13 Devo- My exodus continued

Deuteronomy 1
Command to leave Horab
Moses turning command over to tribal leaders for disputes.

They are going through a journey; that is causing them struggle and strife. As people of God who have been delivered form slavery and received the blessing of so man y miracles. I am constantly surprised over the amount of doubt and strife that goes through the nation. They argue, complain, and seem to have such little faith. But yet as I can see their faithlessness I do not notice my own. We know whenever there is uncertainty over what lies ahead there are strong emotions. Even though we know that God is in complete control, we still get scared, stressed, frustrated and quarrel with those around us. Yet we should be banding together, lifting each other up. I wonder why it is so easy to take our frustrations and anger out on those close to us even when they are the ones leading us to better places or plans in life by following Gods plans.
Inspite of the trouble; Moses loved his people (Gods people). He was still there to help and guide whenever the quarrels were to much for the Tribal leaders. He is a good of example of showing Gods love and compassion to others.

I know my grammar and sentence structure is terrible. I just really like typing out the things I learn from my bible reading. It helps me see the big picture better. I hope you all do not mind my bible rambling.

Now What: Bensing family Adventure

As many of you know we have decided to take temporary residence in a Camper Trailer. Anyone needing to learn thankfullness and humility: this is the way to do it.  You see we bought a 1980 Terry Travler.. So yes its ugly and old.. I can't really complain about the shape it is in... It is pretty decent for its age. It just needs some...... fine tuning. But it has A/C (woohoo), a working, sink, toilet, and stove..  It seems everday something needs repairing..  But the campground has a pool opening soon, a fishing pond, and big grassy areas to run and explore.
So we have decided to make it as much of an adventure as possible.. But the camper has been taking care of that for us from all of the facets leaking (not such a hard fix), to the refrigerator falling on me and giving me a black eye (yes easy fix but very frustrating and kinda painful) to the camper sinking in to the ground about half a foot due to the 3 glorious days of rain! Its been very interesting.
But we still have managed to have fun.. There is a play ground with a basketball court and balls, horseshoes and tether ball. So everytime we do Laundry (which is often)  we challenge each other to games.. At night on our way to the showers we catch frogs, and compare the differences. Yesterday we made fishing poles and went fishing.. Jess didn't want a hook so we just tied a worm to the end of her line and wouldn't you know it..she is the only one who got a bite..Fish are getting smarter I guess.. Today we are learning about amphibians in our creation science..So we went and looked at tadpoles then we decided to catch some to watch grow.
well duty calls.. Hope everyone is doing well

The New Beginning: Adventures of the Bensing Family

Our life has been such an adventure lately. At least it feels that way.. After the movers came and took all of our stuff to storage, we "moved in with our dear friends Ashlee and Bret.. It really was fun playing with the triplets and watching our children play with Tori.. We had good fellowship and lots of fun.. Its is always hard to leave good friends behind.. Can you imagine how crazy and loud it is with four adults and seven kids in a little 4 bedroom house?!?!
Then it was time for our trek to Oklahoma.. We had a really smooth trip  and the scenery was beautiful.. When we finally arrived in Lawton it honestly felt like we had returned home. Everything seemed so familiar.
Especially our friends and family in Christ...The Nunley family.. I am so thankful that we made such a close connection with them when Nik was stationed at Fort Sill. They have been a true blessing to our family. It has been so hard tearing myself away from their little paradise of a home.. Its so quiet and quaint.
Since they have a small farm.. Mathew, Sierra, and Jessica have been able to run and discover like all children should (at least I think so). They have milked cows, fed chickens, gathered eggs, and helped with whatever chores Stormie and Renee can get them to do.
Every day at the Nunley house brings a new adventure of some kind..  Birds building nests in my bag of syringes (you would be surprised how quick those little wrens can build) on the back porch above the refrigerator,  or when the little nest of wrens got spooked and decided to bail out.. I am sure it was a comical sight watching us girls chase the little things down, especailly when the smallest one took a dive in the pool and needed rescuing. But the cows of course are my favorite part...I love cows and of course the milk and more importantly the fresh cream..  Life is so wholesome and just seems so right out in the country..
Oh and definatly another great highlight is having Breezie and Jason right there.. They have such a sweet family.. Its really been a good "baby fix "  for Nik and I.. Jacks little smiles can light up a room he is  such a snuggly baby you never want to put him down and thier oldest Madelynn (sorry if spelled wrong) is so much fun as well.. She is so tiny and sooo smart its really fun to see the things that will come out of her little mouth.. And as long as Her Aunt Nanee (Renee) isnt around I actually get to cuddle and play with her as well.
It has really been neat to see how the girls have grown into such wonderful young ladies..
Thank you Paula, Art, Breezie, Jason, Stormie, And Renee for all of your kindness we Love you all so Much.

My Exodus! God Knows the best way.

This morning I stumbled across this well known bible story. The part that caught my attention that I had never noticed before was                                                                                                                                    Exodus 13:17-18  And it came to pass, when Pharoah had let the people go. that God led them them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt. But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea: and the children of Isreal went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.

God doesn't always work in the way that seems best to us. Instead of guiding the Israelites along the direct route from Egypt to the promised land, he took them by a longer route to avoid fighting with the Phillistines. If God does not lead you along the shortest path or the path of least resistance..don't complain or resist. Follow him willingly and trust him to lead you around unseen obstacles. He CAN see the end of your journey from tne beggining, and he knows the safest route.

This was a good message for me. Especially as we are coming close to a turning point in our lives. We have an idea of what we expect to happen in the coming months.. But we could be wrong...or it may take more time..I just need to know that GOd is controlling my future and that he knows the end result if I just follow him. Some things just seem so simple to me...I am a point A to point B sorta person..But life doesn't always work that way sometimes we need those detours.

Okay I know its been awhile...I am sorry

Gosh I don't even know where to start exactly. Things have been such a whirlwind since Thanksgiving.. Its all passed so quickly. We are persevering in school and getting things done..Don't ask me specifically what things just now..:-) Buts something is being accomplished..We are getting much better at keeping a schedule which includes school times for everyone including Jess, Everyones chores and responsibilties and MOM even gets free time in there!! How great is that? The kids have been ver helpful and so I am not feeling so overwhelemed anymore..ITs funny how working as a family is a constant on going process..Always improving and learning what works best. I am sure I will one day have it down to an art..Most likely when the last one is graduating..But hopefully I am passing on some good household skills on to the three of them..

We are now officially waiting on the med boards' decision for our future.. Our (not really our but his) Packet was finally  sent to Virginia and now its just a few weeks til we get the official decision. Nik seems pretty confident at us getting out since it was the unanimous recommendation all around here at Bragg. So if he gets the go ahead to get out we should be looking at moving around May.  Next Weekend (Feb 2ND) Texas Instrument is Flying Nik and I out to Dallas so we can check out the area and so he can do a face to face interview. They are paying for tickets, hotel, and rental car! So we kind of get a free weekend get away!! How awesome is that?? The kids will be with Uncle Corey and Aunt Jo..They are so excited..Well Jo and the kids are I think Uncle Corey is a little nervous at having all the kids in his little apt..

Speaking of Corey and Jo!! For those of you who don't know; they have a beautiful baby boy (who will be turning one in march) and they brought him down so we could hang out with all of them..He is such a doll. He is a little skittish of his aunt (which is an understatement.) But I still think he is the best looking baby..And it is such an indescribable feeling watching My brother in law and sister in law as parents..I never expected it to affect me so much but I am just so overjoyed watching their little family.. They are heading to Uganda Africa in February and I am excited to hear about all of the things they will experience there.
I feel so blessed to have my family and I am so excited for the things to come..2008 holds so much promise, blessing, and adventure for my family!

Making Butter

I am finally posting my Home Made Butter!! I am just Copying this simple recipe from http://www.allotment.org. I let each of the kids make thier own butter. It was really simple and fun. When we made ours I used our handmixer and rinsed our butter with ice cold water. Save your buttermilk to make biscuits or pancakes.

Making Your Own Butter

The 'ingredients' for butter are simply cream and possibly a little salt. I think you can make butter from goat's milk, but it takes a different method so I'm sticking to what I know. Making butter from cow's cream.

You do not need much equipment to make butter at home, a bowl and large jar with a lid being the minimum. If you have a food processor or an electric whisk then the task will be much easier.

Butter Making - Method

Let the cream reach room temperature, around 20 C (68 F) is ideal – this is critical. Don't heat it but leave the pots out of the fridge for a good few hours to warm up. If you have a cold kitchen, put them into the living room to warm up.

Now we are ready to make butter.

With a jar you need to half fill the jar, put the lid on and shake it for anything between half an hour and an hour. This is hard work, especially for any quantity and I've not tried it myself.

With a food processor or an electric whisk, proceed as if you are making whipped cream. In the processor, use the plastic blades if you have them. I'm told the Kenwood 'K' beater is the best tool if you are lucky enough to have one.

It will go through the usual stage of starting to form firm peaks and then it becomes quite stiff. At this point you might like to reduce the speed of your whisk because when it goes it happens very fast.

All of a sudden the cream goes a bit yellow in colour and then little bits of butter appear and a thin liquid, the buttermilk. Just seconds later, the butter seems to clump and is separated from the buttermilk. If your whisk is on high speed you are now redecorating the kitchen, hence my suggesting you reduce speed to a minimum.

Buttermilk

Drain the buttermilk off – you can use this in baking, cooking or make your cat very happy.

Washing the Butter

You need to get all the buttermilk out of the butter or the butter will quickly go rancid. Add clean cold water to the butter in the blender and operate on low speed for a minute. You need the water to be cold or you melt the butter, which will then run off with the water.

Repeat the washing process until the water is really clean, this can be seven or more times but I can't emphasise enough how you do need to make sure the water is clear.

Pressing the butter

You now need to get the water out of the butter. In the old days they had special wooden paddles to press and shape the butter but you can use your hands and the back of a spoon to do this. When you have the water out you are ready for the next stage.

Salting or Flavouring the Butter

Homemade butter can be stored for at least three months in a freezer. I do know that commercial butter stores for much longer but I think they add stabilisers or something to it, which enables longer storage.

If you are going to freeze the butter, don't salt or flavour it. The freezing process enhances the saltiness or flavour and you may well find it tasted fine on the way in but is too salty after freezing.

To salt do not add more than a small half teaspoon for each half pound (250 gr) – half that amount suits me but I don't take a lot of salt.

You can also add crushed garlic or dried herbs to make flavoured butter if you wish at this stage.

Shaping the Butter

If you have salted or flavoured the butter, you will need to mix it thoroughly and then you can shape it. I prefer a roll of butter rather than the traditional box shape. You can then wrap the butter to keep in the fridge or to freeze if you have a lot.

I find cling film ideal, but I've been told you can use greaseproof paper.

Conclusion

For the ordinary person, making butter at home with ordinary kitchen equipment is very easy and a great way to store bargain cream. Like most things made yourself, it tastes wonderful and you control the whole process.

Math in our house

Math in our house is actually fun..Anyone who really knows me is probably shocked to hear me say that math is becoming my favorite subject to teach. But we seem to almost always have science and math combined..Sometimes I feel like I am learning right along with them. And its FUN! So anyway on this particular day the kids had to pick recipes that they could mostly read by them selves (Except Jess she always just makes up her own biscuit recipes for snack) and I put a price on each of the ingrediants. They had to buy the ingrediants from me(They each have a jar full of coins that we use for school).  Its so exciting when you realize that you are teaching something that is making sense to them!! My kitchen was TRASHED..But we had so much fun.. Not only did they learn how to recognize, read, and add money but they also learned what happens when you leave out an important ingrediant, that every part of the recipe is important if you want it to turn out right. which could lead right into a bible lesson.  Just as the entire Recipe needs to be followed exactly in order for our treats to be pleasing to our taste buds and tummies. We need to to follow Gods word exactly as he wrote in order to please God.  From cover to cover of the bible is Gods word. No picking and choosing what we want to follow. In order to be pleasing to God we have to follow all of his instructions even if some of it dosn't sound good to us. If God did not intend for us to follow a specific instruction he would not have put it in the bible.

Hope all of you are well and happy!

SURVIVED THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL!!

Boy has this been a whirlwind of a week! I can't believe how much I was able to pack into our week. And let me just tell  you that it is by the grace of God that inspite of the many things that had to be done, the week went well. God has provided me with a way to help my family financially admist all of my other duties and we are all extremely thankful for that.  I am very pleased with how well our first week of school went. All of my children worked very hard and did an excellent job. It is very motivating and exciting to see my young scholars ready and willing to learn. I have had very little complaints and they have finished all of thier assignments. I pray that we continue this way. Its nice to be able to give my children the ability to work at thier own pace. It provides for very confident and accomplished little ones.  In the past Mathew has been my main struggle when it came to school and This week he has been carefully finishing assignments and running the completed work to me so that I can put his smiley face on our school chart.  I just feel so immensly blessed and thankful for my little family.
