1 Kings 1-5
David anoints his son Solomon King. (whose mother is Bathsheba the woman David sinned with, married and was forgiven)
David was a wise fair king and I believe he prayed for his son Solomon years before his reign. As Godly parents should pray for their children.
David gave very specific orders to Solomon on his death bed that Solomon carried out swiftly.
In his first four years as King ; Solomon wasted no time in carrying out the commands of his father and God.
When approached by God Solomon humbly admitted that he was young and did not know how to fairly rule the gigantic kingdom he had inherited. But he did not get overwhelmed or act haughty to hide his shortcomings. Instead he asked God for Wisdom and discernment in judging fairly. Here was a great King with a huge kingdom, he could have asked to the greatest nation; the "biggest name;. But he understood his blessing and asked God for help to rule wisely.
We all have our own "kingdoms". And I am sure that we could all want more from our " little kingdoms"
I want to be more humble and thankful about the blessings I already have. Like Solomon I want to have more wisdom and discernment to manage the things that I already have. And to also have the wise, loving discernment to love, discipline, and teach my children.
I want to be content with everything God Provides for us. And to reach out to others with my blessings.
I also need wisdom in my relations with others; strangers, friends, family,....
To allow my actions to be wise and gentle. (Oh thats a hard one for me since I have such a short fuse) |
