Can you believe it...

I am already getting my list of school books typed out. We like to plan on it so we can start to put money aside. I like to use the website, vegsource.com to get my used books. I have had great luck with it. I have even sold some stuff on there.

Well, this is what I'm looking at for next year....

I'm thinking of using LIFEPAC from Alpha Omega. I have only ever used there history curriculum in the past. I'm thinking of getting the math books for my youngest. He will be in 6th grade by then. I have always used Saxon math but, he is not liking it. My oldest has had good luck with Saxon so, we will stick with it for him.

I am also looking in to there Language Arts books. We are using SOS right now.

I will continue to use Apologia for science.

I think I will use Abeka for Literatur. And I am still thinking on the spelling curriculum. If anyone is using a good spelling program, please let me know. I'm using Writing Road to Reading right now.My kids are NOT getting much out of it. My 15yrs spelling is BAD!!! We NEED something better.

I think my kids are getting a little bored with the same old thing each year. So, I'm just looking for something new to "spice" school up a bit. I want it to work though. So, if anyone has tried LIFEPAC, I would love to hear what  you think of it. A friend of mine used it for her dd and really liked it.That's why I'm giving it a try.
And, any other ideas would be great.

BTW: I hope everyone has a GREAT SPRING BREAK. I know I will.

Trying something new

Well, I plan on teaching the boys about animals next month. I thought I would pick an animal for each week and we go to the library and study on them. When we get to birds we can go out and see if we can find the ones we are studying. I am going to write up questions for them to study and see if they can learn more about Gods world. My oldest is 15 and I hope he get's into this lol. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

I have a hard time thinking "outside the box" as they say. I'm sure everyone or most everyone has done this with there children lol. Oh well, I'm late at getting around to things.

Science

One of the best science books I have come across is Apologia. I love the fact that each lesson has experiments in it.That way our children are not just reading about science, but they have hands-on lessons as well. Steven ( 15 yrs ) and I have been working out of the Physical science book right know. We are almost done. We will be going into the Biology book sometime in Jan. We can't wait to get into the lab work.

If you are interested in getting this book, here is the website. http://www.highschoolscience.com  It's worth a look.

I got the book used. The price of a new book is a little high for me. I got it for $40.

Happy learning

Fran

P.S. If you have the book or are thinking of getting it, I found this website that a lady made. She made lab sheets and also made daily lesson plans. You just copy it off and go. Here is her site.

Unit studies

I'm sorry I have not been around. We have had the stomach flu for about a week now.

While I have been caring for my sick kids I have been getting some reading done. I ran across these unit studies done by Kym Wright from Open Arms magazine (http://openarmsmagazine.com ). I hope to try a few of them after the holidays. If I do, I will let you know what I think of them.

If anyone else has tried them please post me and let me know what you think.

When we are not so under the weather I will try and get back.

If I don't post before Thursday, HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING and my the LORD bless you.

Fran
