Just wanted to post an update to my last blog. Other than an occasional ache near my right kidney, I'm feeling much better. I went to the MD yesterday and he said my rectocele isn't very bad. I am supposed to avoid lifting anything over about 15-20lbs. It won't be easy as my now 2yo weighs 28pounds! :( Oh, well, I'll try! Other than feeling moody, all's well around here. I am tackling laundry and general straightening today. If all goes well, the children and I are going for a walk this afternoon. It's cold but beautiful and I have not been on a walk this fall! Have a wonderful day and a blessed Christmas Season! Libby |

I'm using this as a place to vent for now. I'm feeling completely worn our. My sister's wedding was Nov. 1 and it went well. I'm glad it's over, though. Phew!:) I sure hope my daughters will opt for a simple wedding. Soon after the wedding, my almost 2 year old came down with a respiratory bug and we had a rough week. He's still got a cold and is whiny and as a result, I've not been having much uninterrupted sleep. About 2 weeks ago I started feeling bad; I can't really put my finger on what it was but I didn't feel 'right'. Then on Sat. I had blood in my urine - I have kidney stones and I hadn't been drinking enough water. I feel like I've been going downhill ever since! I also have a rectocele (female hernia) that is bothering me alot lately. Everytime I go pee, I feel the need to push. Is it the rectocele or the kidney stone? Is it possible I have a UTI, too? We don't have insurance right now so I'm frustrated. Anyway, I have been irritable and fussing at the children a lot lately. I don't want to , don't mean to, but then I see the mess they've made or the chores they haven't done and I lose my temper. The only effect it's had is to increase tension in our home. This, of course, makes me feel even worse. What a vicious cycle I'm on! If anyone reads this, please pray for me and my family. I'm so tired and stressed out at the moment and can use any prayer lifted up on my behalf. Thanks! God bless you all. Have a great Thanksgiving. |

I'm still up, obviously! Dear husband and the children are all sleeping soundly and here I am on the computer! I was just catching up on my email and checking out The Schoolhouse planner. from the Old Schoolhouse. It looks like it will be great although I must admit that I didn't look very closely. I'm actually supposed to be making my to-do list for tomorrow. One of my sisters is getting married on Sat. night and the rehearsal is tomorrow night, followed by a bride'smaid's luncheon on Friday. The kids will have a holiday on Friday but I want to at least get math and reading done tomorrow. Oh, well, I guess I'll end here. My shoulders are beginning to ache; I'll take that as my sign! good night all! |

The older I get, the more I see just how right the 'older folkes' were when they said that time goes faster the older you get. My oldest son turned 20 today! I can't believe it! Where did the time go? Just last week he was a toddler begging for me to read 'one more book.' Actually this post is being written to me and anyone else who needs to be reminded. Time does fly and we often miss out on opportunities to enjoy our children. I am not an organized person but I have frequently put off doing fun, creative, character building activities to get the housework done. The ironic thing is that the housework is never done and therefore we rarely do the things we all want to do. I hear myself saying the same thing to the younger children that I said to the oldest, "Let's get the house decluttered and clean so we can do or go...: You'd think I'd have figured it out by now! I am going to commit to having the children help me gets things tidy in the living areas every day and going for walks, 'doing art', making mudpies, or whatever comes up every day! Yes, reading and writing are important, as is housework, but if I spend all of my time focusing on those and neglect building actual relationships with my children, I've wasted my time! Soon enough the children will be grown and gone and Megablocks and crayons won't be scattered everywhere. All of their stuff will be cluttering their own homes and my house can be tidy. I want my children to look back on their childhood and say, "Do you remember how we used to play matchbox cars with Mama out in the back yard and do all sorts of fun things with her?" At this point, they would probably only say, "Mama always fusses because the house is a wreck and she never has time do to stuff with us." How sad! May God bless my efforts to win their hearts! |

My family went on a road trip up to NC on Saturday, just to see the beauty of the mountains at this time of year and to buy cabbage, apples, and boiled peanuts. My husband's parents and his neice and nephew accompanied us and our 6 children. We did have to separate the 'three stooges' occasionally as they were giggling almost constantly. Winding mountain roads and senseless chatter and laughter will wear on the nerves. Believe it or not, the worst gigglers/ chatterboxes were boys ages 10 and 7! I always thought it was just girls who liked to talk about absolutely nothing at all! As the Bible says, "The heavens declare the glory of God." Almost from the beginning of our trip I was struck by the unbelievable beauty of the sky and the terrain. What a wonderful God we serve who creates such magnificent sunrises and sunsets. My oldest son borrowed my neice's camera to take pictures of the vivid color scattered over the mountains. Only God could get away with putting certain colors together and making them absolutely gorgeous. The rivers winding and bending down and around the mountains were breathtaking ; I'm sure they were literally breathtaking if you happened to fall in! My family and I have collectively decided that we want to live in the mountains! We even contemplated 'squatting!' Besides being illegal, we'd probably freeze to death once winter hit! Oh, well, it's fun to dream and plan. We have been eating our wonderful mountain apples; they are so sweet and crisp! Everything seems to taste better grown at higher altitudes. Tonight we will have cabbage and perhaps biscuits to go with our 'mountain' honey! If you haven't been out to see the beauty of the changing leaves, I recommend that you go ahead. you won't be disappointed! |

I have been using the 'random blog' button and have come across some wonderfully encouraging blogs. I am so glad to hear that we all have good and bad days, that things don't always work out as well as we'd like, and that I'm not the only one who struggles with clutter and disorganization. I have a bad habit of thinking that everyone else has their act totally together and I, alone, do not. Praise God for his grace, patience, and forgiveness! As the little rhyme says, "Don't give up on me; the Lord ain't done with me yet!" |

My youngest son is 22 months old and is constantly on the lookout for something to get into. Today it was Daddy's laptop. He popped off the control key and the 'L' key. I managed to get them back on and working but they don't look exactly right but close. The worst part is that this is a new (1.5 month old) computer that we purchased for hubby's school work! I left the computer open and the door to my room open and that is all it took. It's amazing the amount of trouble a tiny tot can get into in a very short amount of time! Yesterday it was permanent markers left down by an older child. Last week it was nail polish left down by a teenaged sister; actually the same teen left it down 2 different times with bad results! My next youngest was 5 1/2 when the baby was born so it's been a while since I've dealth with this sort of thing. I do believe this little fellow is much more mischievous than any of the others ever were, but moms have memory loss sometimes!:) After he goes to sleep tonight, my oldest daughter, almost 14, and I are going to work out some sort of schedule so that he is watched literally ALL the time! Bedtime is not far off and as I said earlier today, God is good. Libby |

I'm just sitting here at my hubby's laptop thinking about how truly good and sufficient God is. My dh is in school to become a nurse anesthetist. He just started in August and won't be done until 12/10. He had to go to a conference this weekend and God provided the means and the transportation! We are able to live in a rural arean on family land in a house with heating and air! My children are healthy and intelligent, although foolish on occasion! I'm excited about starting a home business and a little scared at the same time. Again, God is good. The temperature is down again today so the AC is off and the windows are up; I can hear children playing in the yard and birds singning in the tree. Again, God is good. I am challenging myself to think daily on some of the many things I have to be thankful for, whether it is the weather, our health, our home, God's loving protection, etc. May God bless any of you who read this. Remember, no matter what each day has in store for us, God's grace is sufficient for all! Libby PS. does anyone know how the little boy, Noah, is doing? I came upon a blog discussing his condition and infection the other day and have been unable to find the blog again. Thanks, |

Actually, I've used bits and pieces of different ideas almost since we started homeschooling 13+ years ago. We have used Saxon for most of our math with R&S for early grades. I don't like textbook approaches to history because they seem to suck the life right out of the subject! My oldest son, almost 20yo, loves history and knows alot about it even though we didn't use the textbooks. We read alot and watched the history channel. While he was a basic training, he read aloud a book about some war to his room mates! I thought that was pretty good. We've use Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and are beginning to use the Right Brain Phonics program with a daughter I believe has dyslexia. |

I became a No Greater Joy distributor today. I don't know when my materials will get here but I'm excited! I love NGJ! If anyone is unfamiliar with them, just go to www.nogreaterjoy.org. |

This is my first, probably pitiful, attempt at creating a blog. I'm tired of feeling incompetent with computers and the many things one can do with them. Perhaps I'll learn how to add stuff tomorrow! |
