My family went on a road trip up to NC on Saturday, just to see the beauty of the mountains at this time of year and to buy cabbage, apples, and boiled peanuts. My husband's parents and his neice and nephew accompanied us and our 6 children. We did have to separate the 'three stooges' occasionally as they were giggling almost constantly. Winding mountain roads and senseless chatter and laughter will wear on the nerves. Believe it or not, the worst gigglers/ chatterboxes were boys ages 10 and 7! I always thought it was just girls who liked to talk about absolutely nothing at all! As the Bible says, "The heavens declare the glory of God." Almost from the beginning of our trip I was struck by the unbelievable beauty of the sky and the terrain. What a wonderful God we serve who creates such magnificent sunrises and sunsets. My oldest son borrowed my neice's camera to take pictures of the vivid color scattered over the mountains. Only God could get away with putting certain colors together and making them absolutely gorgeous. The rivers winding and bending down and around the mountains were breathtaking ; I'm sure they were literally breathtaking if you happened to fall in! My family and I have collectively decided that we want to live in the mountains! We even contemplated 'squatting!' Besides being illegal, we'd probably freeze to death once winter hit! Oh, well, it's fun to dream and plan. We have been eating our wonderful mountain apples; they are so sweet and crisp! Everything seems to taste better grown at higher altitudes. Tonight we will have cabbage and perhaps biscuits to go with our 'mountain' honey! If you haven't been out to see the beauty of the changing leaves, I recommend that you go ahead. you won't be disappointed! |
