Sep. 1, 2007 - CAMPING IN OREGON
One of the things we really enjoyed about our trip home from Mississippi was camping. The tent we have worked really well with our station wagon. It's a Cabella's tent, made especially to connect to the back of a vehicle. We were able to have two people sleep in the back of the car (seats folded flat) and four people sleep in the tent. It really kept us from being too crowded.
The other thing we did to save money was we avoided restaurants. For the most part, we shopped at grocery stores and ate out of our cooler. I will admit, we all got sick of bagels with cream cheese.
We liked the bagels with ham and cheese. ![]()
Then we added avocados.
Bagels with peanut butter and jelly.
Bagels with salmon.
Toasted bagels on the campfire.
Bagels with bagels on top.
Yes, we burned out on bagels.
Then we ate plenty of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on every variety of bread, even resorting to bananas instead of jelly. We liked having the sandwiches in the car, because we didn't have to stop for the meal. Everything stayed within arms reach and I got quite good at assembling sandwiches on my lap in the front seat. Those are already good memories I'm enjoying thinking about. We ate kilbasa cooked over the campfire. We toasted corn-on-the-cob over our campfire (yes, I knocked all 8 pieces INTO the fire... but rescued them.) And we especially enjoyed the avocados we found at a roadside produce stand. They were 7 for $1. What a deal!!
Anyway, here are some pictures from camping one night in Oregon. We stayed near a creek, and picked blackberries the next morning before we hit the road again. Good times!

When we left Oregon and headed north into Washington and then onto the Canadian border, we stopped in Lynden, Washington at my Grandfather's grave to place flowers there. It was sad for me, because in the past when we have stopped there I would call Grandma Boye and tell her where I was. She would thank me for caring, and I would tell her I love her SOOOOO much. I still love her that much, and miss her even more. But I still took the flowers, I knew my Mom would appreciate it. I sure look forward to seeing Grandma and Grampa again when we get Home.

Be blessed.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I like seeing Sullivan with a Timberwolves sweatshirt. Reminds me of your roots here.
